Full Removal of Comodo Firewall Pro 3 with SafeSurf Toolbar (If Regular Uninstall Method Fails)

This has always worked well for me Ive also cleared up viruses using this method to make a “Dead” scan of a drive scanning from a “known clean system” with a Good AV program however a good knowlege of HJT and what files are needed and what aren’t.
Althoght I don’t think this is requiered to remove CFP
OD

Thanks for posting these, RW. For now, I will hold off adding them to the “Comprehensive Instructions” until perhaps the next release.

BTW, I was able to update my desktop system to v.304 with no issues. A different story, though, for my IBM T43 laptop: it would not boot into Windows. However, I solved the problem on a subsequent reinstallation by selecting “NO” when asked to upgrade the “active format configuration” on the second reboot.

My 2 cents: the option to convert to a new format is a VERY BAD idea, especially when it wipes out pre-existing rulesets. This “option” either needs to be removed from the current release or completely reworked from the ground up AND offer users a guaranteed means of re-importing their previous rules.

Hi guys please forgive me as i not great on this registry stuff.Im having a few problems(nothing serious) with V3 so i want to do a complete reinstall(tried once but problem persists).I know have .17.304 but looking through the registry i saw referances going back to v2.Anyway i downloaded Ragwings file so after using the uninstall programs to remove v3 do i just double click on the .bat file to run it?
Sorry for my ignorance :-[

Cheers Matty

Ouch. You should delete them.

Yeah. Just double-click it

Cheers,
Ragwing

Thanks mate yeh i got rid of the v2 entries,im gonna run your file then i`ll look again

Top one Matty :-TU

USSS:

Thank you so very much for your bat file. I agree with you 1000% that NO software should be a difficult to uninstall as is Comodo Firewall!

I tried doing an Comodo update on my Vista laptop and it failed when it could not copy some file. No problem I thought, I will just uninstall, download a new copy, and re-install. That did not work at all. Supposedly it uninstalled but when I tried to re-install, I was told it was still installed and asked if I wanted to uninstall. Of course I said yes and assumed the uninstall happened. But it didn’t! So I went and decided to rip it out by the roots there being no alternative. Out went the two Comodo folders I found and then I cleaned the registry twice with two different cleaners. Same problem. Ran your script a couple of times but it did not work because I was not in safe mode so files that were not supposed to exist were in use. Booted into safe mode ran your script and bingo it was finally gone! I was finally able to install the new version – I guess I am a masochist!

Priority One at Comodo should be to create an uninstall that actually works. The present situation is just ridiculous!

Shopsey, welcome to the forum. And we’re glad to hear you were able to work through your issues and finally get CFP working on your Vista system.

Please direct your thanks to Ragwing, who developed and maintains the batch file that you used.

My instructions are available as a “last resort” option in case the batch file, for some reason, does not remove all remnants of CFP from a system.

A milestone of sorts:

Drinks are on me for everyone here who found these instructions helpful. We are all indebted to Ragwing for developing and maintaining his batch file that removes CFP’s files and registry entries.

Cheers, everyone!

Wow, that’s almost 154 views each day! Also almost 7 downloads each day for the batch file.
Anyways, I’m happy that the amount of downloaders for it doesn’t grow much. That means that people have less problem with CFP 3.

Cheers with beers,
Ragwing

Apologies Ragwing for not giving you proper credit for that wonderful file!

USSS…where should we all go to take you up on the offers of drinks?

Don’t worry about that
And if you want that ■■■■, just go here

Houston, Texas. Pick a bar. Any bar.

To paraphrase the immortal words of Bluto (Animal House), “My advice to you is to drink heavily if the latest update to Comodo Firewall borks your machine.”

re my problems pages 4 and 5 i think…

i had to remove the hard drive from my xp machine and slave it to a new HP pavillion machine running vista i went out and bought…

i changed the ownership and permissions on the drive and recovered all my data…

noway am i installing comodo fw until it comes with a guarranteed full uninstalation promise…

i now need a new hd for my 18 month old machine and a format as im going to be using the original hd to back up to …

i dont know how anyone is going to manually delete the reg entries in vista as the registry is split into sections 2 of them being described as hidden entries and super hidden entries…

my thanks go out to ragwing and ussss for all your help…

You’re more than welcome, manxman. You really had a mess on your hands. (BTW, your initial posts in this thread appear on Page 4.)

In a similar vein, I wonder if we can expect a new onslaught of problems with today’s public release of Windows XP Service Pack 3, Release Candidate 2. I hope everyone here will temper their enthusiasm a bit before applying SP3. Reports of improved performance with previous beta editions of SP3 have been a mixed bag, to say the least.

Installed Windows XP Service Pack 3, Release Candidate 2.
When I got the initial defense+ popup chose installer or updater.
During the update process Comodo firewall version 3.0.18.309 gave me some sort of popup for a bug report which I sent to Comodo for analysis.
(Defense+ Events: Application: drwtsn32.exe Action: Terminate Process Target: cmdagent.exe)
At the end I got a couple of more defense+ popups.
All in all, I would have to say that things went fairly smoothly.
Network Defense was set to train with safe mode.
Proactive Defense was set to clean pc mode.
At the end I did not have any files waiting for my review!

Mike

if i dowload and use comodo now…

when will be the next time i will need to un-install all things being equal…

and when will there be some kind of statement from comodo as to the uninstaller situation…

see i am thinking about just configuring the windows firewall for 2 way traffic as it is only a oneway firewall by default as microsoft do not consider your average computor user capable enough to cope with a 2 way fw…

To get started, just click on the Start Button and key in wf.msc and hit Enter. This will bring up the comprehensive Windows Firewall with Advanced Security management interface. Here you will be able to configure rules for incoming as well as outgoing connections.

Make sure that you set the default action for outbound connections from allow to block. Otherwise the outbound firewall will be useless because it will allow all connections. This can be done from the Windows Firewall Properties link found on the main screen of the management interface.

you see i have the optionh to wait a little while for comodo to do something about the problem…
anyway i chose comodo for its leak test results not is ease of use…
a firewall main funtion is not to leak … a put quite simply comodo wins any arguments on that score…
this new machine came with norton security suite 60 day free trial…actually i am impressed with its ease of use … however there is noway its staying after 60 days…
i have 2 gig of ram and still office 2007 struggles to open my excel folders … they are large mind you 250/300 mb and constantly running short on memory whilst in use…
so norton is going and if i still struggle for memory after that i will increase the ram to 4 gig as i have 4 sockets …

anyway best of luck to you all…and i will look in over the next few weeks to see what the siyuation is with the uninstaller…

excuse the spelling errors above please…

no excuses i didnt read it before posting…

If anyone has used the Zsoft uninstaller that I mentioned earlier in thread and can give feedback, that would be great. I think I seen Soya on the forums over there. It automatically deletes files to the recycle bin. I have always let it delete the added registry keys and put back what it deleted for analyzed installions.

Greg

I find Revo Uninstaller in Advanced mode more effective. I had no traces of Comodo after uninstalling it.

Hi. thx
