A friend of mine asked me if i knew an easy program for waking him up in the mornings… like an alarmclock or something.

There is one from microsoft for media center edition 2004 but works on 2005 too. Which version of xp he uses?

edit it does not work on XP home, pro, etc

He use XP pro…

I have xp pro too and it doesn’t work on it. :-
But I’m sure we’ll find something

Edit: you will find it under the utilities section ;D

Just wondering whats the difference between media center 2004, and 2005, besides the year…

Revenue stream?

The main differences that I’ve seen revolve around DRM. Beyond that, they fill no niche. Can’t use em in a domain structure and the bundled utilities are of little value. With MCE, I spent a good bit of time disabling functionality and finding workarounds for things that were broken by MS in the name of DRM.

Revenue stream?

Right on target. I bet it’s just like what Symantec does… new version… stick another year on the end & charge for it again. You have to admit, that it does seem to work. Genius.

Name?

Not certain, but it might be the one called Handy Free Clock.

Just a guess.

LOL

LOL!
Of course… ;D I missed it the first time… Have downloaded it now…
it’s beginning to be a lot of programs there… :o

I read that it was based off of XP Pro, does that mean that Microsoft will support MCE for the additional 5 years like they will for XP pro?

It may have a loose association to XP Pro, but it feels more like XP Home. Much of the networking functionality is missing. F’rinstance: You cannot join a domain…

I would imagine taht MS will continue to support it until they feel strapped for cash & then they’ll announce an EOL to make everyone hurry up and upgrade. If they do it too soon, it will backfire big time. It may happen anyway. Many people are realizing that they’ve been led by the nose for years and are tiring of the scenery. Kinda like pulling a sled; unless you’re the lead dog, the view never changes.

I’ve got too many…here is a link to my free…no ad personal site where I keep my list. http://bearbottoms1.com

I hope that is ok. Everything is Open Source or Freeware.

These are pretty cool. I have a monitor on my nightstand so I can work in between naps and now and then, I need an alarm clock.
