2 months ago, I have recommended my company to switch to Avira for it’s strong protection and smaller footprint. In fact, Avira is known to be smaller than other realtime on-access scanner. What about CAV (Just Anti-malware component, without Defense+)?
The reason for asking is, some of our workstation are running on WinXP Home SP2 with Intel Pentium 4, 256MB Memory and a 5400rpm 40GB Hard disk only.
It shouldn’t be problem for you, even though you’re only running 256 MB of memory. If there is a noticeable slowdown, I think a RAM upgrade might be in order
Hope this helps,
Beanie
EDIT
Sorry, I meant KB, not MB! Thanks to Creasy and HeffeD for pointing that out
Yeah, that has to be KB. As 2.4GB isn’t a very respectable footprint.
I just installed CIS on my sisters 10 year old machine. Having only 384MB of RAM, she has been incredibly happy to get rid of ZoneAlarm, AVG, and SpyBot in favor of CIS. Using CIS saved her the nearly 100MB of memory resident goodness that the other three applications were taking. Now her system boots much quicker and applications load quicker. Not to mention the hard drive was churning so much because it was constantly swapping stuff out to the page file in order to get multiple apps loaded.
