Firewall updating problems

I have ver 3.13.121240.574 of the free firewall installed on an XP Home SP3 laptop. It tells me there is an update available but when I try to get it, it gets so far and shows error 113 and tells me to check my connection - which is fine. This has been going on for some time, so I would like to sort it out.
I’ve downloaded the currently available version directly from the Comodo site and tried to install that with the currently installed version still installed. It keeps telling me that I must let it restart the computer to complete the installation - but the same thing keeps happening and I can’t get it installed.
Should I uninstall the old version and try again or have I a corrupted download ?

It is unfortunately not possible to use the program updater to go from 3.13 to 5.10.

It is best to do a clean install of the current version and start from scratch. Uninstall the old version and reboot.

When that does not work use this clean up tool in Windows Safe Mode. When done boot back to Windows and install v5.10.
