Help?
One of my tools, most likely CCleaner may have removed the StartUp functionality of COMODO Firewall - v 2.4.18.184.
Before, when Windows (XP Pro, SP2) would start up, the COMODO Firewall would startup with the System Tray Icon displaying.
Now, when I startup my PC, nothing.
TEMPorarily I moved the COMODO Firewall shortcut into the STARTUP folder, then wait for it, then close the app, and it minimizes to the System Tray. This is not ideal, but it works.
I could not find a Config Setting in COMODO Firewall to reset it to START when WINDOWS starts, as most programs have as a Config Setting.
Go to Start → All Programs → Accessories → System Tools → System Restore. Choose “Restore my PC to an earlier time…” and click “Next”. From the calendar, choose a date and time when you know the PC was working properly and then click “Next”. Follow instructions onscreen to shutdown running programs etc., after which the system will reboot and wind back the clock to whatever time & date you chose.
Any programs you installed after the date you choose to go back to will have to be reinstalled. Same goes for AV updates.
Thanks for that, but of little use.
Computer stays up most of the time, except to reboot occassionally for updates that require it.
I do not know how far back system lost COMODO StatUP capability, and too many changes since then to use a restore just for that reason. (Though I do have several programs backing up critical files/settings - since I do backup regularly - use System Restore when has big show stopper.
There must be an easier way ??? - or I’ll just just leave temp solution in place.
I had gone through the FAQ’s; however, I must ahve missed the one that is the thrid link in your reply.
Thanks.
This has also been reported to have something to do with programs that delete the CFP startup entry in the registry. There should be one like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run with the String value “C:\Program Files\Comodo\Firewall\CPF.exe” /background
So I created a new String Value named Comodo Firewall - and now it starts up and displays in the sysem tray.
