I have Win XP Pro, SP2 and the Comodo Firewall.
during system boot?
After boot the Comodo Application Agent Service is running, but there is no tray icon and Windows Security Alert says that the Comodo Firewall is not running.
So, I have two questions:
What is the mechanism by which the firewall is started
Is the Comodo Application Agent Service the firewall itself?
Why does Windows say the firewall is not running if the Agent is running?

It is possible part of the install became corrupt, please try un-installing, then go to program files in your root drive and delete the Comodo Firewall folder (under Comodo section).
Yes you will lose the configuration, however there is a script available which should backup your current settings. For more information you can look here.
I personally do not know how to manually add a startup entry, maybe one of the others would know how.
However this may not be limited to a simple startup entry, it may be actual program files becoming corrupt in which case on a re-installation can fix this.
Also you may wish to try a system restore to a point where Comodo Firewall was starting correctly.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled this before and still had the same problem.
The Comodo Application Agent service starts normally, and Comodo Firewall works fine if I manually start it or if I start it by putting it in one of the Startup folders.
But, I believe it should be started at boot time so that it can protect the system while it is booting and before other programs are loaded.
If someone can tell me where to put the entry so that the Firewall loads during boot time as it should (and as I imagine the install program would do) that would be great.
For someone who this is working as designed…you can get this information by downloading and running autoruns.exe from Microsoft
During bootup, the firewall blocks all incoming communications by default. You can enable a block on all outbound connections via Advanced → Attack Detection & Prevention → Miscellaneous (tab).
CMDAgent.exe is the firewall which runs as a service.
This will depend on your motherboard to some extent. If your mobo has an nForce4 (or greater) chipset, you can disable the hardware firewall via the Windows Services menu (run: services.msc) by setting the “ForceWare IP Service” to manual and then clicking the “Stop” button. This will cause the operating system to report that the “Active Armor firewall” has been turned off even though the Comodo firewall is actually functioning properly.
Thanks for the registry entry Zito…that should work great.
Looks like Windows Security Center does not recognize the service as running…but it will if the GUI is running and also, that will create an icon in the system tray.
Thanks! That is what I was looking for…this issue is now resolved (for me).
