Firewall keeps trying to update but never completes

??? For weeks now it keeps trying to update to solve a win 8 issue but I’m on xp 64bit and it has been going on for weeks now. I try to manually update, it says there is an update but then it says it can’t find the file. DUH??? because i don’t have win 8

What’s up with this. Finding a firewall for xp 64bit is not easy these days and I am never updating this operating system because of software and programs that I use on this thing. I have win 7 on another computer.

Help please

thank you

What version of CIS are you using? What do you mean with Win 8 issue? What is the problem that you are trying to solve?

The latest version of CIS, v5.12, was initially released to provide for Windows 8 but was later released for all platforms; being Windows XP and later.

If you are using 5.12 there is no need to manually update.

Thank you for helping me :-TU

5.10 is the one i am using

Again today 2 or 4 times already a window pops up saying there is an update and when I click yes it never finishes and say s there is a file missing.
When i look at web report it says something about a window 8 file that it can’t find?

I wasn’t aware of a 5.12 update. Should I just uninstall then reinstall the 5.12 ???

when I open panal and click update this is what i get;

I have exactly the same bug. While attempting to update the log ends with:

Copying inspect_m.cat
inspect_m.cat : The system cannot find the file specified.

Like the other user I have Comodo free firewall version 5.10 and Windows XP 64 bits.
Apparently this problem cannot be fixed?
Can someone confirm that if I manually uninstall 5.10 and install 5.12 this will work with the (rather exotic) Windows XP 64 bits?
Thanks!

So now I am going to click YES and in one hour it will do it again. There is something wrong here guys ang girls. There is a file that the update is looking for and win xp does not have.

As far as win xp goes why would I update my operating system when? I works great! Powered by Asus, artic cooling, and 64 athlon ; creative audigy; sunbeamtech 20 in 1 front loader that also controls two fans with an lcd display. I love that thing. I plug my guitar right in the front of my computer and record it. It is not compatible with vista or win7

I did some checking on my own system. I have several WIndows installations one of them is a 64 bits Vista. I think this problem may be limited to 64 bit Windows installations.

Could you guys try the following workaround? Go to the CIS installation folder and see if the inspect_m.cat is present. If not copy it from the repair folder.Then run the update again and let us know if that helped or not.

Well let clarify here before I do anything;
inspect_m.cat i do not see it in either folder as you have written it.
I have an;
Inspect.INF
Inspect_M.INF
Inspect system file
Inspect security Catalog

In my repair file I have the same files except an “Inspect security_m Catalog”
Is this what you are talking about?

EDIT: I am happy to report that my assumption previously posted of a missing file was correct. I want to thank you EricJH for you help. I decided to follow your instructions and copied Inspect security_m Catalog into the main folder and tried an manual update. It updated and prompted a restart and now I am at cis 5.12; I hope this helps other people out and I will recommend cis and this forum in the future.

PS. I was very concerned because years back a I was a victim of the avg antivirus xp 64 bit update debacle. I went to their forums and got no response or any help. They just completely ignored me and the solution they offered was very confusing for a regular user like myself.

Thank you and many blessings :-TU

Thank you for reporting back. I did take another look but did not find a file called inspect_m.cat but of course I could find inspect.cat which together with inspect.inf is needed to be able to install the inspect.sys driver (packet filter driver).

In short for everybody with this problem. Please copy the inspect.cat from the repair folder to the main installation folder.

I run Win XP 64 bit and had exactly the same problem when trying to update CIS:
Copying inspect_m.cat
inspect_m.cat : The system cannot find the file specified.

I checked for inspect_m.cat file in Comodo folder - it wasn’t there.

I followed the instructions of EricJH, found inspect_m.cat in repair folder, copied it to Comodo folder and tried to update CIS again. It worked this time!

This work-around solved the problem for me as well (on WinXPpro 64bit):

Just to be precise: Please copy the inspect_m.cat from the repair folder to the main installation folder.

Thanks EricJH!

Thx for noting.

When using XP x64 the inspect_m.cat seems to be the problem maker. This file does not show up in Vista x64 (where I checked for cross reference).
