This has now happened 7 times.
XP SP3 OS. Download free firewall from Comodo Web Site and install without any extras. Install always goes in fine. Firewall runs on boot flawlessly. I check for newest update about once a week.
After about 3 weeks to 2 months XP starts booting up slower and slower. Starts at 35 seconds to boot then slowly climbs to around 48 seconds. When the boot time gets near 50 seconds the boot is not reliable. It does not complete booting up every time, and any program ran gives the hourglass for up to a minute or more before it starts. Comodo takes an additional 30 seconds to one minute to run.
Once the boot up has got to the point where Comodo takes about a minute to come on line any program ran may not start or take as long as 10 minutes to start.
Finally, Comodo firewall fails to run. Hourglass shows when trying to run any program and never quits.
I then run an uninstaller program, usually Revo, and remove all traces of Comodo firewall. Boot time returns to 35 seconds and all programs start and run normally.
As I stated, this has happened 7 times over the past 2 1/2 years. I just had to remove the firewall again a few minutes ago. Comodo never showed in systray, was unable to even run Notepad.
AV prog: Usually Avast but I change around periodically. Never have any problems with them. I may install a new program or remove one every few weeks. I always use an uninstaller in advanced mode removing all traces of the programs.
A. THE BUG/ISSUE (Varies from issue to issue)
Can you reproduce the problem & if so how reliably?:
Every time. Install, run for a month or two and observe XP grinding to a halt.
If you can, exact steps to reproduce. If not, exactly what you did & what happened:
1:Install
2:Watch XP slow down
3:Grograms eventually fail to run.
One or two sentences explaining what actually happened:
Install Comodo firewall. XP slows down. After 2 months or so, XP doesn’t start reliably. Eventually programs refuse to run then XP doesn’t start at all
One or two sentences explaining what you expected to happen:
HUH? I sort of expect the computer to keep on chugging along with the firewall running.
If a software compatibility problem have you tried the advice to make programs work with CIS?:
No. I don’t run the entire CIS
Any software except CIS/OS involved? If so - name, & exact version:
The operating system XP
Any other information, eg your guess at the cause, how you tried to fix it etc:
Fixed by uninstalling Comodo firewall
B. YOUR SETUP
Exact CIS version & configuration:
Lastest and always updated Comodo Firewall
Modules enabled & level. D+/HIPS, Autosandbox/BBlocker, Firewall, & AV:
Firewall only
Have you made any other changes to the default config? (egs here.):
No
Have you updated (without uninstall) from CIS 5, 6 or 7?:
No
if so, have you tried a a a clean reinstall - if not please do?:
Seven times. Problem keeps recurring
Have you imported a config from a previous version of CIS:
No
if so, have you tried a standard config - if not please do:
?
OS version, SP, 32/64 bit, UAC setting, account type, V.Machine used:
Win XP Pro SP 3, 32 bit
Other security/s’box software a) currently installed b) installed since OS, including initial trial security software included with system:
a=Avast, most current version, always b=?
C. ATTACH REQUIRED FILES (delete this section (section C) after attaching required files)
Always attach the diagnostics file (instructions on how to do this provided here) and the KillSwitch Process List (instructions on how to do that provided here and put the resulting file in a zip file. Both should then be attached to your post.
