Firewall driver not shown on network settings panel (XP SP3)

Hi there,

I have just installed the latest build of CIS (3.9.95478.509) on an EEE1000h, running on Windows XP SP3. Coming from Vista, I was used to find the Comodo Internet Security Firewall Driver listet among the installed services for each network adapter on the general tab, “This connection uses the following items” (Control panel → Network and Internet Connections → Network Connections → Properties of network adapter → General tab, “This connection uses the following items”).

On this XP install, however, the firewall driver is neither listed for the wifi card, nor for the lan port. The firewall seems to be running ok though. Diagnostics doesn’t detect anything faulty with my install. I have checked the device manager. The driver is listed there as Non-PnP-driver. “dir c:\windows\system32\drivers\inspect.sys” comes out positive: file is found. There are no EventID 7000 or 7026 messages in the “Service Control Manager”. “net start inspect” returns “The requested service has already been started”. And finally “reg query hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\inspect /s” results in:
! REG.EXE VERSION 3.0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\inspect
Description REG_SZ COMODO Internet Security Firewall Driver
DisplayName REG_SZ COMODO Internet Security Firewall Driver
ErrorControl REG_DWORD 0x1
Group REG_SZ Streams Drivers
ImagePath REG_SZ System32\DRIVERS\inspect.sys
Start REG_DWORD 0x0
Type REG_DWORD 0x1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\inspect\Enum
0 REG_SZ Root\LEGACY_INSPECT\0000
Count REG_DWORD 0x1
NextInstance REG_DWORD 0x1

So the big question now: Is this install functional, even though the firewall driver is not listed on the adapter properties tab?

Thanks for your help!!

Hi,

This is a normal difference between XP and Vista / Win7.
I’ve got both Win 7 and XP in front of me right now to compare.
So it’s all good.
