Firewall asks the same thing over and over again + creates multiple entries

I get asked the same (allow/deny) question every time I start some apps.
This despite the existence of rules specifically allowing or denying these apps.
I am using several old browsers as a testbed for how well things render
with obsolete browsers. (running as portable apps) I do not, however,
want these to access the internet.

Every time I start one I get asked if it should be allowed access despite having
indicated that they should be blocked. I have also tested allowing them but
this results in the same behavior (multiple questions and rules created).
I normally get one question per app per day - or it could be per reboot.

I now have, for instance, 20+ rules (exact duplicates) for firefox.
Several also for steam and other apps. Very odd behavior. I must go in periodically
and clean these if I don’t want the config file to become too unmanageable.
Version used is 5.016 But have had this issue for a very long time.

have you checked ‘Remember my Answer’?

CIS does not remember rules made for programs on “mounted devices” because of security reasons; think USB flash drives, USB hard drives, NAS, encrypted partitions/drives.

Are these apps of which CIS forgets the rules on some sort of external device. You already mentioned portable apps; these often are used on USB flash drives.

It is per reboot. CIS will remember the rules until reboot (per Windows session)

Steam updates pretty often. That could be the reason you find Steam related stuff. I suspect you are running FF from USB flash drive or some other external medium.

For the moment I will transfer you to help until it becomes clear whether there is a bug/issues involved. Please ask any mod to move this report back to the bugs forum if it turns out you cannot resolve this.

The problem is that it does remember them. At least it adds them to the rules list. This is why I have a billion (hyperbole) entries now.
As for mounted devs: I am not using USB drives but I am running things from encrypted
drives that are mounted manually some time after windows start. I must assume Comodo
considers these mounted then.

Ok that does explain Steam. It is still a problem that Comodo cannot decide whether a device is a
movable dev or not. This way we end up with the worst of both worlds.
All I end up with are a lot of useless rules.

A fix for this is to make the file a trusted file in D+, strangely.

D+ Trusted Files (not trusted applications) identifies files by hash, and allows outbound access by default. Because file are identified by has it should remember temporarily connected files.

If this cures the problem then we have got to the root of it. If so I may combine with Issue 272, as though different symptoms they would have the same cause.

There is a paradox here indeed. Because it forgets it makes new rules over and over again…
