Error 1603 while installing CIS Premium

Hi,
My machine is Windows 7 x32 machine.
I have used Comodo Firewall for long time, but now I wanted to turn to full functional Comodo Internet Security.
I read instructions on this forum and tried to uninstall Comodo Firewall first (with Revo).
When Revo tried to use Comodos own uninstaller I got a massage that "it applies to only installed software" and action was skipped. Next Revo offered cleaning of remnants (medium level). I must admit that I got the same massage as above when I tried to uninstall Comodo Firewall through Menu Start shortcut or Windows applet "Programs and functions". So there was no other option - I decided to remove the whole program by step 3 in Revo (cleaning remnants). After reboot I started with the new installation of CIS Premium. After installing Comodo browser - in the stage of 3-4% of CIS installation I got an error massage "Comodo cant finish CIS installation because of critical error. Error 1603".
I tried 3 times - every time the same.
I tried also system restore to revert system and to the state before uninstallation of Comodo Firewall that worked fine - but restoration process freezes (tried 2 times).

Now I am trapped half way. Could somebody help me, please ?

Please see this. I think for your situation you will be most interested in step 3.

Hi. I checked that list; no. 3 is not useful as there is no Comodo in either Revo or Advanced SystemCare uninstallers to remove.
So I shut down my network connection and Comodo, deleted the contents of the Comodo folder, did a registry clean, restarted the machine, did another reg clean, and tried to install the Comodo version I just downloaded.
It got to about 18% and gave me an error 1603 message box, but continued the installer set up and stopped. There is nothing in the Comodo folder except the Quarantine folder which I can’t delete or see into (which I object to–this is my computer, why can’t I delete stuff from it?).
I restarted again and tried again; same error.
It’d be nice to know what’s failing, please.

I would advise that you try doing essentially what you described in this post.

However, before trying to install CIS you use this Unisntaller Tool to remove any remaining files. Hopefully this will work. Please run it, after removing CIS and rebooting. Then, after it’s done running, restart the computer and run it again. Then restart the computer and try installing CIS. Hopefully it will work.

Please let me know if this doesn’t work.

Thanks.

Worked perfectly. That tool should be prettied up and made part of the standard toolkit.

I tried this uninstaller tool and I STILL get the 1603 error and can’t install CIS. I guess I’ll just have to move on to another product line.

Hi Sammo,
If it is Version 6 you are having trouble with, there is an updated uninstaller for Version 6 attached to the bottom of the post in the link below.
Forced uninstaller tools

Kind regards.

Thanks for the updated utility. I ran the 3 steps and rebooted. After rebooting I ran step 2 again. I then tried to install CIS 6 and got the same 1603 error. Did not work. ???

Please try following the advice I give in this topic (including running them in safe mode and running uninstaller tools for all security programs which were installed on the computer at some time) and see if that helps.

I followed all of those steps and nada, zip, zilch. Still get the 1603 error. Just can’t recommend or use CIS.

Did you also check steps 6 and 7, in addition to running the other tools in Safe Mode? If so then this is quite strange. Let me ask the other mods if they have any ideas.

Can see here.

Did all the steps, safe mode included.

Still no luck. :frowning:

Did you try re-downloading the installer? Perhaps the original one got corrupted in some way.

Please check the digital signature and ensure that it’s valid. If it is then this is not the problem.

Tried different installers. Still get 1603.

Are the digital signatures for these installers valid?

Yes.

You can find the event log (Item administration) when the crash occurred, and maybe there will specify which branch of the registry should be given privileges.
P.S. (Start - Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer) Next, select Windows Logs, and look at the log System, installation and application).
Look what has caused 1603.
