In this FAQ below I red that CIS does not scan emails but what If i receive a mail virus do not activate it but forward it to someone els? I do not only want to protect myself but also do not want to spread a virus among friends. How is this covered?
The only way to cover this would be to open attachment you want to forward to your friends and see if it is clean or not.
How can Comodo have a slogan “Create Trust Online” when this can’t be made secure? When I send a virus to my friends and clients I do not have to promote Comodo no more. I, my friends and my clients expect a secure program for themselves and for others on-line. We do not want to scan all and every attachment we send, do you?
May be in the future there may an email scanner. But for now there isn’t. My best guess if it gets implemented it will be as early as v4.
Sorry I can’t make it any better than it is. However do notice that Antivir Free neither scans emails; that is only for the paid versions.
On the other hand everybody and their mother these days have an AV program running on their computers.
This only effects the forwarding of emails… not the adding of attachments. If you attach a file to an email, the file is scanned when it’s being uploaded.
You also have to take into account most major email providers already scan emails for malware when they are sent. Why do it twice…
No we don’t really want CIS to scan each attachment. Not only would that slow your browsing experience down as well as take space on your harddrive, you would also have compatibility issues and a false sense of security involved.
There is a WHOLE bunch of email services all looking different… You expect CIS to download your attachments and scan then and then somehow involve in whatever GUI offered at any service and say “hey this one is bad”??..
There is better ways to evolve CIS and to give users GOOD protection. CIS was not made to “secure everyone online” as you seems to believe, It is designed to protect home/businesses users willing to use it. :-TU
Also comodo don’t really believe in antivirus programs, people think “hey avira scanned it it must be safe” facts has shown that Antiviruses misses a MAJORITY of the new baddies… If your “friends”/clients wants to be safe online they should really consider a better security practice then relaying on a AV to tell them if a file is clean or not. Since AV’s misses a LOT… :-TD
If you can’t be bothered to scan attachments and merely forward them on, the fault is yours alone. You can only do so much to protect someone from themselves. At some point, people need to take responsibility…
Personally, I care more about the people in my address book.
CIS is designed to protect your computer, not everyone elses. If they are also running CIS, then there is no issue, as any malware will be caught before any potential harm is done.
I don’t see problems if avast can do it there must be something wrong with the design from CIS. Avast scans in as out going mail and does not slow down. They exist for about 20 years and there philosophy is much better than Comodo’s.
If you want to create trust on-line than create trust on-line. Every computer is on-line, the sender and also the receiver. Creating trust means not depending on the sender but also make it secure for the receivers so they do not have to worry.
I find it a bit short sighted to write something like this knowing that 80% of the people with a computer do not even know how to protect it.

Sorry to say but below belongs under “bllsht”. What has email to do with browsing the web… ???

As has been said, almost every email provider has virus scanning built in at their level. If yours,or anyone else’s doesn’t then find and use one that does. A good one and the one I use is gmx.com. It’s a web based email system that can be easily set up to be accessed through pop or imap by any of the major email programs.
And the philosophy that the Earth was flat existed for thousands of years and people felt it was much better than the new theory of the Earth being a sphere when it came out. Do you have proof of it actually being better?
Depends. I feel “creating trust online” is what Comodo strives for, not what it does.
In the case of sending and receiving emails, Comodo sufficiently protects the receiver (without a doubt). On the sender’s side, when they attach a file to the email, the file is scanned as it’s being attached (e.g. when it’s accessed). What is not scanned is when you blindly forward an email that contains an attachment. Why?
- It has already been scanned by the originator
- It has already been scanned by the email provider
- The end user has an antivirus product installed to protect their machine if and when it’s downloaded
Of course these are all assumptions, and in my opinion all very reasonable assumptions to make.
