Email Problems - Delayed or Not Received Emails

I have noticed something about Hotmail, and a friend has too: it seems like sometimes an email that I was supposed to get never comes. How can I tell? Well, if there was an email sent to a group that I didn’t get, and a recipient replies to all, I get the reply and see that I should have gotten the original but didn’t.

Or, like what just happened, someone sends something to me. Then I meet him in person, and he asks if I got the email he sent. And I didn’t.

Plus, I know I should be receiving notification emails about ■■■ on this forum. I have gotten the emails before, but recently someone has sent me a few ■■■ and I didn’t get anything.

If you could follow all of that, have you ever had a problem like this?

Yes, some Mods have reported problems with emails not being received from the forums. We’ve never got to the bottom of it as far as I know. But, I don’t think what I mentioned is related to Hotmail & I can’t comment on Hotmail specifically anyway (I don’t have Hotmail and haven’t in years).

Added a poll.

Hmmm…how long has this been happening?

Which bit? Mods not getting emails or Hotmail being useless utter rubbish?

edit: being unfair. ;D

Poll: I think you need to add some clarification to the poll. Hotmail emails? Forum emails? All emails? Any emails?

Hotmail is usually ok. 88)

Sure

Oh… and if they say “No” it would be nice if they stated their email provider.

Sometimes when i send our kid an e-mail with a bigish attachment(~5MB), she uses tiscali by the way, she says she never receives but i never get a revocation message.
Whereas with Virgin(my ISP) you seem to be able to receive up to about 10MB per mail.

Where there attachments to the vanishing mail?

Matt

I’m not sure what you mean… but, if someone has an email provider that never drops/looses emails, then that is something worth shouting about. Of course, 100% delivery is an impossible thing really… no provider can provide that. After all, at least half of an email’s journey is outside their control, unless it’s a local (same provider) email.

Probably stripped off by one of the providers because of size or policy.

[i]PS Of course, that doesn’t exclude the usual software & chair-keyboard interface problems.

This is bad…I sent an email from one Hotmail account to another (both accounts are mine)…and I didn’t get it. :-\ :-X
