Double click in explorer won't open files if prog. virtualised (4.xxx.828 x32)

Problem description: If you double click on the data files of a sandboxed virtualised program (I used both Word and Excel), you would expect the program either to load the version of the file you double clicked on (whether the virtual copy or not), or (I guess preferably) the most recent version of that file. Instead the program - in the case of Word and Excel at least - hangs.

  • Step by step description to reproduce the issue: With Word 2003 or Excel 2003 not sandboxed prepare for testing by saving a file in each application. Sandbox Word or Excel sandboxed limited virtualised (using ‘Add a program to the sandbox’), modify then save the file again. Close both apps. Open Windows explorer and try to load the files by double-clicking - try both virtual copy and original instance. No file is loaded. Take Word & Excel out of the sandbox, restart them, and the files load correctly.

Here is a screenshot of the Word file association.

This suggests that the problem may be with DDE-based associations?

Best wishes
