Does Comodo have too many pop ups?

You’re right. The trusted vendor list is a joke. Not that it needs to be larger and updated regularly, but the fact that Comodo keeps adding vendors by default. 88) I’m the only person that should be adding Vendors to that list.

If I’ve never used any software from some company and never will, there is absolutely no reason for that vendor to be on the list! It is called My Trusted Software Vendors after all, not Vendors Comodo Or The Community Trusts… How could I possibly trust some company I’ve never even heard of?

If down the road I want to use some products that aren’t on the list, I can add them myself. It’s my system, and when it comes to its security, I am the only one that should be giving any software the green light to be installed on it

“Creating Trust Online” is the motto, but Comodo’s continual adding of vendors to the list without my consent is actually lessening my trust of Comodo.

Comodo really needs to add a feature that asks the user if they want the list to be updated, or which vendors the user would like added.

Clearly the purpose of My Trusted Vendors was subverted to provide a quick and dirty solution to the problem which is the subject of this thread.

Hopefully My Trusted Vendors will return to its original role when Comodo has developed the correct response to the excessive pop-up issue.

Apparently it is easier to find 5.5 million signatures to fill a blacklist, than it is to find 10,000 to fill a whitelist…

Wise words.

After reading all 10 pages again I find none of these questions have been answered :frowning:
Bump.

Yes, he has been extremely resistant to giving any hard data. I was able to get two pieces of software out of him that he used as examples. Office and WinRar. I don’t have access to Office, but I did install WinRar. On the first popup, I told D+ to treat the application as an installer/updater, clicked Yes to enter installation mode, no further popups during installation.

Ok.
I shall make an attempt to provide some “hard data”.

Yesterday I completed a fresh install of the latest version of CIS, after being stuck with v3.8 because it could not update due to unknown reasons.
After reboot to admin account, popup appeared indicating detection of new network; in my case a W2K3 domain, which I set as “Trusted”.
After reboot to domain user account, several popups appear stating that winlogon.exe etc. is trying to access the domain controller.

If I already set the local network to be trusted, why more popups for basic Windows applications and functions?

This is just one example.

Why do some here pretend that this popup question is a non-issue? ??? >:(

Malware authors test their programs with NIS2009 , KAV2009 …
When they release their malware these programs will say nothig ,
but Defence+ will

No one is pretending it’s a non-issue…

Its called troubleshooting. If a user is seeing non-standard operation, you need to try to determine what may be different on their system.

IMO, I would say that the issue this user is experiencing is standard operation, not “non-standard”, so I would hardly consider this mechanism which you promote as, “troubleshooting”.

What is your problem ;D

The only way for a HIPS to make a decision on it’s own is to use a whitelist.
That’s not a complicated thing to add because it is not as vast as a black list and doesn’t need to update as frequently.

But they are making CIS more user friendly ;D

My problem is with the much too frequent low signal-to-noise ratio in this forum.

They have been making CIS more user friendly to the detriment of security.

I’ve read all the posts in this thread about popups, and I’ve got another question, you can comment on or move it to the proper thread.
PC World magazine rated CIS eighth in a ranking of security suites of eight suites.
1- G Data Internet Security 2010
2-Norton Internet 2009
3-BitDefender Security 2009
4-Panda Internet Security 2009
5-AVG Internet Security 8.5
6-Checkpoint ZoneAlarm Extreme 8.0
7-PC Tools Internet Security
8-Comodo Internet Security Pro 3.8

Now we know your problem is not Comodo ;D

Wow, where’s Kaspersky’s Suite?

!ot!

Errrmmmm… No. 88)

If what you are experiencing was standard operation, then it would happen to everybody. As it does not, this would indeed be non-standard operation.

So what we are doing is trying to figure out why you are seeing this behavior.
