Discussion And Work Thread For Using Comodo Products On ReactOS

I’ve created this thread to function as kind of a just-for-fun-workplace. I, on occasion, run ReactOS, and thought it might be fun to see if Comodo products would run on it. ReactOS is alpha stage software and to my knowledge none of the Comodo products support it, but seeing what’ll run on ReactOS is part of the fun of using it. Instructions in this thread should ONLY be used on testing installations of ReactOS as they may botch the install. Personally I have it installed in a virtual machine to make restoring it to a clean state easier.

So, share your attempt results (failed or successful), your ideas for other ways of installing, help figure out why an attempt failed, or just pop in and say hi to everyone. This thread is meant to be light-hearted, and fun.

A few things to keep in mind when posting results would be to that it’s helpful to include the version of ReactOS you are running, whether you are using an installation of ReactOS or just the live-cd version, if you used one of the pre-provided virtual machines from the ReactOS site, and the Comodo product (and version) you are attempting to install.

Remember, just because someone has already tried, and failed doesn’t mean you shouldn’t repeat the test. Duplicating results helps make the
test results more firm, because it rules out unknown impediments that may have been present during the original test. You can also test different versions of ReactOS, because keep in mind that ReactOS is alpha software so much like Wine (a Linux program for running Windows software) sometimes different versions yield differing results.

Have fun.

I’ll get things started here with an attempt using an older version of Comodo Internet Security.

Description:
Installation attempt using native installer.

Comodo Product:
Comodo Internet Security 4.1.150349.920.

ReactOS Details:
ReactOS 0.3.15 installed from the installation cd.

Additional Information:
ReactOS is running in a VMWare Player 6.0.1 virtual machine.

Summarized Results:
The installer launches, the installation fails, and the ReactOS installation is destroyed.

I’ve created a slide show in animated gif format here ( Cahoots — Ann Arbor tech coworking ). It’s missing 1 frame that disappeared before I could take a picture of it. Being a GIF it has reduced colors. In the future I may switch to MP4 (H.264) video files; I haven’t decided.

After double-clicking the exe the installer opens. The license agreement comes up. The enter your email screen comes up. The installation options, and product selection screen comes up. The loading screen runs, and then the destination screen comes up. The Threatcast screen comes up. The DNS screen comes up. The ready to install screen comes up. The installation proceeds, and then the finished comes up with a warning saying “Comodo Internet Security Premium Setup Wizard ended prematurely”“Comodo Internet Security Premium Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again. Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard.” The Comodo installer then displays an error message reading “Cannot install COMODO Internet Security”“Error: 1627 . ERROR_FUNCTION_FAILED - Function failed during execution.”“Would you like to try again?”. You then have a yes or no choice prompt. Upon clicking no you get to the Done screen from the Internet Security Premium Installer. It reads “Tasks are completed”“COMODO Internet Security… failed”. There is a giant red X, and another message reading “The installation has been completed with errors. Please review them and then press ‘Finish’ button to exit the installer.” After clicking finish the entire operating system crashes. The message is quite long, but the gist is that ReactOS was shut down to prevent damange likely caused by a new software installation. The techinical information provided is “*** STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000005, 0xB1CD2190, 0x00000116, 0xB1CD2170)”. Upon reboot I can reach FreeLoader, but once I select to boot ReactOS the system crashes.

Alright, post #2.

Upon clicking the installer the installation process begins, succeeeds, and asks for a reboot.
After rebooting the program opens, and appears to work. VLC is installed, it’s also detected by
CPM, but it doesn’t show up as a monitored application so the ability to create a backup installer
was not tested.
