Did a write-up on antiviruses and CIS on another forum

Maybe some of you will enjoy this.

Read the thread and you are mostly right, but I think you discount behavior blocking and heuristics too much. Look at something like Threatfire which offers great protections with no popups, and minimal resources. Also, all the pop-ups HIPs programs tend to give are essentials false positives, which can be troubling to non savvy users…

So while I agree CIS is fantastic for an pro user that doesn’t mind the chatter, Mom & Pop will be confused by the popups. Most people are lazy in terms of PC security.

Perhaps I was harsh, but they’re far from perfect and can be easily bypassed. The behavior blockers I’ve seen in mosts suites are fairly disappointing.

Well, it’s a forum that’s generally filled with geeks and gamers, so I don’t think that’s too much of a problem.

Ok, in that case I think CIS is great. I would just be hesitant to recommend it to the avg joe. I believe most people don’t want to be that involved with the PC security, and are too lazy to read and properly deal with the popups.

I believe most people wouldn’t have even learned to read were they not encouraged to do so in the environment they were born. :-La

I’d also mention Online Armor Free as another alternative to CIS (although it’s not on the same level). It’s definitely my second choice if CIS doesn’t work right on their computer.

Choice is a nice thing to have.

excellent educational piece!!!

Let us all help contribute to this education!

Thank you MisterMooth!

Thumbs up on your posting! But, I must say that your readers and commenters are basically morons! (At least most of them)

I’ve heard good things about that product, and I’d like to recommend it, but their lack of 64bit support means that I can’t try it out personally.
