Defense+ prevents Avira to update

This is a very very strange one ??? It seems like the problem stems from sched.exe not being able to execute update.exe or avwsc.exe

The only thing (if you`ve not allready tried) is to uninstall CIS (maybe using Revo uninstaller) and to try a re-install. In the meanwhile it may be a good idea to try to manually update the Avira vdf details here http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=71505.
Silly me, you can update when D+ is disabled (yes?) so ignore the above 88)

Does anything appear in the Avira log about updating? No error codes, etc.

so you can reproduce this effect yourself? i never managed to have this error. strange

Thanks for your help to all ! I can’t reply as soon as i wish because I’m not at home.

is avira updater set as “updater and installer” in comodo? Yes !

I tried more and more the manual update before posting in this 3D, but it also doesn’t work.

Good idea try to unistall CIS… But actually I had to uninstall Avira. I don’t know if doing this trial or gong on to use CAV.

trial?

maybe just try the personal free edition of avira (not for commercial use). its a good version, all you need normally.
trial sounds like if you use a version which costs money. and they include extra things, protection features. maybe thats makes problems.

i can only repeat, xp, sp3, comodo firewall+defense and avira free personal edition run fine. never had a problem.

when you decide to use CAV you will find other problems  … while a running avira doesnt make problems

as the updates work with disabled defense+, its a thing of configuration of comodo in your case. a little mistake can have a big result. one of the made rules for avira parts is wrong in defense+. so just erase these rules and make them new. easiest first step.

I meant: trial to uninstall CIS and Avira, as Matty_R suggested to me. I used Avira Personal free

I too never had problem with CIs 3 and 4, only with 5. Which problems CAV has ?!

just to name a few of CAV:

takes much resources (while each 30 minute update, scans, openings), many false positives (reduce heuristic as a hint lol?), rewrites the database for each new version NUMBER of updates (several 100mb writings, even for a 1kb update, think about what happens if you update after a month!) imagine you play a game while that, less settings, scans not archives with guard, its made as a third layer (“unimportant” add on to defense+, so if theres a problem, its said: hey, defense+ is there), virus warning window disappear after 2 minutes (maximal setting is around 18 minutes), needs exceptions, scans sometimes “0 files, found no virus” for example .VPK files of steam games.
i am sure i forgot some, but this is enough for me to choose avira.
apart from these problems, comodo antivirus is not bad though

btw, if the setting is “dont scan files larger than 20mb”, what happens with a virus inside a media file? why should a virus writer not choose files with 21mb to carry a virus? too many ifs and whens …

Thanks, I’m thinking at Emisoft Antimalware as av: I’ ve used the free version as manual scan since many years, I could get the paid version.

you meant emSisoft`s a-squared free… yes thats a good on demand scanner.

dont give up. avira works.
what if your comodo configuration stops emsisoft to update too?

what have you done last BEFORE the problem happened the first time? or wasnt you able to update avira since you used the version 5 of comodo?
its a bit sad to see such a problem, while here is all fine. if i would know the single little difference which causes your trouble…

i looked in my defense+ rule set. i use safe mode so avira has just two entries. one for shedule exe and one for update exe. the rest seems to be covered by the vendors list. shedule exe is allowed to run the update exe, rest is on asked (no questions though). update exe is treat as installer.
i used paranoid mode for long. but it never had to save my ■■■ , so i think i am fine with safe mode and a good antivirus.
before i began to use comodo i had only an antivirus and a simple firewall, never had a problem. so safe mode is definitely more safe than what i used the years before.
think about if you really need paranoid mode (i used it because it was there, i had not missed it  )

The problem began when I upgraded from 4v to 5v, nothing changed or modified , Avira stoped to update.
