not sure if this is the place to post but i thought it didn’t really fit in anywhere else on the forum. i’d like to ask for some advice to resolve a few issues im having with my pc i.e. services crashing on startup specifically the DCOM server process service, Logical Disk manager and another with error codes 7023(can’t remember atm as im not at home), when i try to manually start them i get the module not found error. sometimes it’s just these two but occassionally my pc goes in to an endless reboot cycle and nothing loads at all. any help would be appreciated, because looking on google i just get more confused :-\
also if it helps another symptom is the built in defrag doesn’t work.
any suggestions would be appreciated because i dont want to spend another 40quid at the pc shop which said the fixed the problem the first time.
When I read about the constant reboot the first thing I thought of was the XP SP3 fiasco, with SP3 being programed on one system and installed on another?
nope luckily i’ve been free of malware since installing comodo’s products and avira av
hmm i thought it might be a driver issue caused by my wireless dongle but last time i checked in device manager guess i’ll try again
@ uncle yup i’m running sp3 on a 2 yr old HP presario, but i encountered these problems before (and took it to a pc shop) before the download of sp3 (from microsoft update) ??? do you reckon uninstalling sp3 will solve the issue?
also thanks for the quick responses
cheers for the quick reply. i think its a driver conflict rather than a sp3 issues… i have uninstalled my wireless driver but bits are still left behind in the device manager like the ‘wan miniport’ i can’t uninstall these due to an error message saying can’t uninstall because the device might be needed during boot up (which it isn’t) any suggestions?
Mmm…the WAN Miniports is a sensitive area that I’m not too familiar with. I have 4 of them my Device Manager (only visible after enable the hidden devices view): for IP, L2TP, PPPOE, PPTP. But I’ve also seen they could be installed as a result of an older version of CFP3.
Sometimes it takes two tries to uninstall a driver in Device Manager. The fact that you are receiving that kind of error confirms it really is a software driver issue. If it still doesn’t work after rebooting, I would try uninstalling in Safe Mode.
thanks for still trying to help me the comodo communities so friendly (:LOV)
tried the same thing in safe mode and same error occurred. at least no with the dongle uninstalled (apart from these stubborn miniports) my pc works fine…tho its not much use without the net any suggestions on how to remove them?
Do you really want them removed :o? If so I think you’ll have to remove their corresponding *.sys files first. Only question is how do we know what they are. I’ll have to search around.
well as far as i know i guess they are causing the problem. is the anything i can do like posting a log say from hijack this that will help you? i’ll paste some errors from the event log too if that helps… better than me rambling on! lol are you one of the stripped down windows guys like soyabeaner? i was reading that thread with interest
If you decide to post HJT logs, please upload them as attached .txt or some other format because pasting them in the forum will be quite messy or long and hard to read.
these are a few of the errors i’ve been getting (tried to post in a .txt but i got an upload folder full error):

as you can see the previous two (i think) driver related errors then prevent anything from loading on some occasions. as the only things from the wireless dongle left on the computer are the wan miniports (i’m assuming) i guess these are the problem?
im going home today so i can’t offer any detailed logs for at least a week im afraid
