CPU Peaks at 100% every 5 secondes with emule

Hi everybody !

I have clean my computer there is a couple of days, and i chose comodo as firewall. (V)
In the start up of my computer, there is 2 main softs, comodo and active virus shield, the rest of my tray system is the connections icons of windows.
My OS is win XP pro. I’m using comodo 2.4.18.184.

I have configured the firewall for emule, these are the 2 Network control rules I added in first and second position:
Allow - TCP - IN/OUT - source ANY - destination - source port ANY - destination port
Allow - UDP - IN/OUT - source ANY - destination - source port ANY - destination port

After that, I got a High Id in emule.

In my Task Manager, I noticed peaks at 100% every 5 secondes of cmdagent.exe when emule is working ! So, I checked activity logs, and every 5s, there is the same error : Outbound Policy Violation (Access Denied, ICMP = PORT UNREACHABLE).
So, according to this post : https://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,5391.msg39819.html#msg39819

I added this rule :
allow - ICMP - IN/OUT - source ANY - destination ANY - details ICMP PORT UNREACHABLE.

Now, I don’t have anymore logs of the error “Outbound Policy Violation (Access Denied, ICMP = PORT UNREACHABLE”, but the peaks in my task manager are still here ! :o

Is emule 0.48a and comodo not compatible? How can I stop this useless work of my CPU ?

Thank you !
Ch4mo

Hi. Welcome to the forum.

99% chance it’s the logging. Check out my sig FAQ link:

Version 2.4 - cpf.exe and High CPU https://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,6819.0.html https://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,6933.0.html https://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,6943.0.html

Hi, and thanks Soya for your quick answer

I tried to turn off logging, nothing happened.
I turn off Monitor DLL Injections, and the biggest part of the problem was fixed ! All the peaks have desappeared !

So, with comodo without emule, my CPU fluctuates between 0 and 4%. (L)

With comodo and emule, my CPU fluctuates between 5 and 25%, and when there is just emule and not comodo, between 0 and 5%.

Do you think I can optilmize it again?

With the time, I notice that the average of my CPU waveform decreases… it’s cool

Thanks
Ch4mo

Exactly which file or process is consuming cpu in your Task Manager?

Oh my god !

The main process are cpf.exe and emule.exe.
But after one night of work (I live in China ;D), the process cpf.exe is peaking at 7%, and usually fluctuates between 0 and 5 %, it’s better than before! (B)

So, if you don’t have a big tip, I can wait for the version 3

Thanks a lot
Ch4mo

My best tip for cpf.exe is to set logs.log file to read-only according to the links I quoted above from the FAQ.

If emule.exe is using cpu, then it’s not a CFP issue. If anything, it should be using cpu, otherwise how would it be running? ;D

0-5% is normal. I get around that range with cpf.exe from time to time.
