i’m currently installing the winXP sp3 RC, and i’ve noticed that cmdagent.exe uses up a lot of cpu to list/update the humongous amount of files that are being installed/changed by the SP in the ‘proactive defense’ section.
As i don’t have a multicore cpu, this slows down the updating process quite a bit (it’s using about 60% cpu constantly on an amd64 3500+), and i was wondering if this was entirely desired behavior.
I realize the scanner is doing the job it’s supposed to, but in the case of SP updates it doesn’t really seem useful to track file version changes, and furthermore opening the added/changed files list when it has 7500+ entries takes forever, as does any updating of that list.
