CPF 2.3.4.45 is very slow

Version 2.2 was quite pain in my tail because it made the cpu load to 100% on every 2-3 minutes. CPF took only about 20-30, but antivirus software (avast!) took the rest.

I was quite happy when this 2.3 version arrived and even I couldn’t use autoupdate, I had no installing problems with uninstall 2.2 → install 2.3 procedure. I haven’t had those 100% cpu loads anymore (I had, but only two and I don’t know if they were cpf:s fault), but the firewall is otherwise painfully slow.

I didn’t understand that this slowness is cpf:s fault because it only takes few MBs of memory and cpu load is usually 0%. I think the reason why all web pages load slow and the reason why other programs freeze when refreshing browser were only errors of slow netconnection. After I shutted firewall down, all problems were gone. I put firewall back and sllooowwww… I now noticed, that when you refresh web page, cpf.exe goes up to ~50% cpu load when refreshing is over. Before that computer freezes even with small cpu load.

I used picture gallery to test that. With cpf on when I press F5 page refreshes and it takes about 2-6 secons to all pictures load. Without cpf (or with cpf 2.2) 80-100% of pictures are loaded instantly when I press F5 and rest then, this takes about 0-1 seconds. That is very big difference and with cpf 2.3 on it is like using modem again. Even bigger problem is that freezing. I opened task manager. I pressed F5 on my browser and then instantly switched to task manager. Parts of task manager were parts of browser page (which happens when graphic event routines havent got cpu time to draw all graphics). After last picture was loaded few seconds later task manager windows was drawed complete and mouse clicks were registered again.

Is 2.3 so much more resource hog than 2.2 or is this some kind of a bug? The reason why I changed from ZoneAlarm to comodo was speed but unfortunately cpf has been always slower than ZA which I didn’t even know to be possible (:AGY) I would not want to wait another month for next update when some new computer slowing bugs arise.

Another annoying thing, feature or a bug, is those popups saying that known program is trying to contact internet via ole and the caller is some program. In most of the cases this is true (for example you click mail button in messenger and messenger opens browser, when comodo says that messenger is trying to use avant browser). But for some reason cpf thinks that the last used program is always calling some new process with ole. For example I used faststone to browse my pictures. Few days later cpf says, that faststone is trying to use scvhost.exe with ole. First I paniced and denied all of those but when about 7 programs were listed to use scvhost.exe with ole and I havent used any of those for days, I understood it was a bug (or weird feature). Now when I used Visual Studio, cpf thinks that almost every process is now used by it. When I start my browser, cpf says that visual studio has called it. When I start winamp, cpf says that visual studio has called it. And so on, and so on.

Phew, little long message. Havent got any positive feelings about cpf yet, but still using it and hoping for better future.

I have noticed that too. I just allow them once to get rid of the popup.
But I do have HIPS that tells me that allowing those does not do any harm, so to me it seems definitely like a bit annoying bug. But how does anyone without a HIPS program tell right from wrong?
