side note: Can someone give a optimized network moniter setup for p2p users? the only rule that’s blocking is the default ip blocking rule and that makes me feel unsecure…
I get these messages almost everytime when I was using p2s software, in this case, this is a p2p client I was using.
I look at the security bar and it’s all red and it scares the hell out of me, but if I deny the access, it blocks the whole software internet connection. If I close the software and reopens, I will get the same message. How can I stop this from happening?
Why can’t I simply ask comodo to block the ip autmatically instead of the software?
This happens when I have my p2p turned on, and then I open a mozilla window, or when IE invoke my p2p to turn on, or even winrar and acdsee gives me this warning…
Do a search on these forums for “OLE”. There have been numerous postings on these alerts. Most of these are allowable, but you have to read between the lines a bit. Also, search for P2P (or emule or azureus etc.). You’ll find that there are specific rules to allow P2P traffic without the alerts.
If you have a close look at the details after the IP address, you’ll see that it was doing a DNS lookup. Thisis done to resolve a "name"to an IP address. The IP address shown in the the alert is for a server that can perform DNS resolution.
How do I know if some IP connected to me is trying to abuse that OLE capability?
OLE is an internal service on your local PC. It can only be initiated,. used or abused by something running on your PC, not by a remote IP.
The problem I have with comodo is that I cannot simply block the IP because I will disable the internet connection of the program too.
This is probably because the IP address shown is for your ISP’s DNS server. If you block that you are effectively killing your internet connection, unless you know raw IP addresses off the top of your head.
