I could give you links to Wikipedia or some other site, but I’ll be nice and write an own answer :stuck_out_tongue:

1. What is a Firewall?

I actually wrote this myself when answering to a guy why he needed Comodo!

First of all, there’s a difference between a software firewall(like Comodo) and a hardware firewall(router).

Hardware firewall usually uses packet filtering to examine the header of a packet to determine its source and destination. This information is compared to a set of predefined or user-created rules that determine whether the packet is to be forwarded or dropped. It might also include protection against DoS-attacks. Hardware firewall are easy to use(just plug in) and default rule are fine for good protection. Hardware firewalls only offer inbound protection only.

A software firewall will protect your computer from outside attempts to control or gain access your computer(hackers), and some protects against worms and trojans. Many software firewalls have user defined controls for setting up a list of safe applications that’s allowed to communicate over the Internet. Software firewalls only protects a single computer, compare to a hardware firewall that’s able to protect a whole network. Software firewall offers outbound protection, which hardware firewalls doesn’t.

So the best protection is to use both a hardware firewall and a software firewall.

2. What is a AV(AntiVirus)?

Antivirus is a computer software to remove viruses(,trojans and worms). Tradiononally antiviruses uses detection based on virus databases. These antiviruses can only detect viruses that’s in their virus database. They’re often updated about 10-20 times a week. Some antiviruses uses another detection method, known as heruistic scanning, which doesn’t depend on a virus database. The heurisitc method scans for suspicous method, so therefore, many safe programs might be flagged as a virus, known as a false positive. Viruses usually damage your computer by removing/replacing important system files, delete other data and copies itself, and might also send itself to anoither computer. The worst ones are viruses that will reformat your computer, removing all data.

3. What is a AS(AntiSpyware)?

Antispyware detects spyware, which is obvious from the name. Spyware is often installed without the users awareness, but it might also be installed along with toolbars and other software. Spyware usually collect private infomation, redirecting web pages, changing the startpage or displaying ads(pop-ups), usually porn on gambling related. Software that displays ad, are called adware, but some adwares can be classified as spyware too, if they do other thing than just displaying ads.

4. What is a AT(AntiTrojan)?

Antitrojans are products aimed at detecting trojans only. Trojans aren’t computer viruses, as they usually open ports in the computer, allowing a hacker to remotely access the computer and control it. Trojans can download other malware, but often firewalls are enough to prevent them from communicating over the Internet. They might also steal data from your computer and transfer it to another one, via FTP or keylogging software. For best effect, trojans usually disable real-time security softwares. Some trojans might turn your computer into a so called zombie computer, that the creator uses to send spam from or launch DoS attacks. The most knwon network of zombie computer is the Storm botnet.

6 what is the Website for Comodo’s Banners

Comodo Banners can be found here.

NOTE: AdBlock Plus will block most of the banners!

7. What is Your names? real Names?

I guess you’re wondering about the Comodo Staff?
Melih’s real name is Melih Abdulhayoglu, only one that I know.
Here’s some of the people that work at Comodo:

8. What is SSL Certificates?

I’ll leave this one for Melih or some other Comodo Staff

Puh, think this is my longest post ever!

Cheers,
Ragwing

Thanks

More in short:

  1. Firewall: Whatever stands between a net and something else (your computer for example), controlling what goes in and out.

  2. Antivirus: The first kind of software that was created to look for and remove malware, long time ago.

  3. Antispyware: Software created later to look for and remove new malware that was not covered by so-called AVs at the time.

  4. Trojan: Malware disguised as desired by the user, or more precisely and more usually bundled and hidden into normal (desired) software.

Sorry if there’s something wrong.

nice info guys (:CLP) (:CLP)
