Computer is locked after auto downloading update! [Resolved]

Hi,
It seems that the updates process does not completes properly for you. Can you pl check the file version and size of these files in “comodo AntiVirus” folder.

  1. cavengine.dll
  2. MSVCRTD.dll

Hi,
Hope you had an great day. Try to diable the COMODO onaccess scanner on the system startup. What you have to do is,Log in to the Safe mode of your Operating system and do the following steps:
1.Open CAVS and click on to the settings button,
2.Then click on to the On-Access scanner and
3.uncheck the Enable on Sytem Startup option.

I have been having a similar problem except my computer does not slow down or lock up it just gets a BSOD.

When i first installed CAV it was fine and i restarted after install and still going fine then when it updated itself it asked for another restart so i did and after that every shutdown i would receive a BSOD and all i did was uninstall it and problem gone! (:NRD)

But i had another experience before that which (:AGY) me but it was my fault.

I had installed CAV and same thing happened with BSOD but this was before i reformatted.
I used system restore instead of uninstalling and when i restored my older av avast was back and comodo was still there. Most of you know not to have 2 av running at the same time so at next shutdown BSOD was gone but at restart different BSOD appeared which made me reformat as i was cutoff from even safemode so never use system restore with changing av’s. (:WIN)

Good point but to note on that, always backup installing any program and create a before installing. These simple things mean a lot if a problem does occur. There are programs that will create good restore points as well as to block anything installed after and would also be a good route to take. Get a Knoppix disk made, you won’t believe how helpful this is in a computer crash scenario. Just some info.

Cheers,

Paul

I got exactly the same problem here. I installed CPF and CAVS and rebooted, it went well. Only when I updated the CAVS, after that it asked me to reboot, the problem came up. My computer just froze, nothing I could do, not even ctrl + alt + del. I had to force it to shut down and then reboot to safe mode. However, like what people already mentioned, no way I could uninstall it in safe mode. It needed the windows installation service to do that (which is disabled by default in safe mode and can not be enabled) I had to use system restore to get my computer back. After that, I installed it again, just to make sure it’s the update of the CAVS that caused the problem, and same thing happened, so I have to get my AVIRA AntiVir back on. However, since it causes problems, why not stop this update/patch and re-release it as soon as it’s fixed? I love Comodo’s products, especially its UI. It’s clean and intuitive. I love to get it back on my laptop as soon as the problems solved.

I am using a laptop with Windows XP SP2 installed. Someone mentioned after uninstalled a defragment software the problems solved. I am not using that. However, I do use PerfectDisk though. (L) I need you back.

Lance

Lance,

The problem isn’t universal. I have 4 computers at home running various versions of Windows and three of the four are running CAV just fine. The one that failed on that network was a new CAV installation after removing AVG on w2k sp4. As soon as it updated, the computer became unusable.

The other three are running either XP Home sp2 or w2k sp4 and all update without any problems.

I see… :-[ Thank you for pointing it out.

By the way, someone said after waited for few minutes, the problem solved, but it’s not my case though. Last night, I update my CAV, rebooted my computer, and went to sleep. When I woke up, my computer still froze.

I really want them back… even though I love my free AVIRA AntiVir too… they both rock.

Lance

Avira is great antivirus but I switched to COMODO because it detected a trojan that Avira did not. Also, at last install, Avira does not have an email scanner which I thought was pretty odd.

As for the hanging… it seems to be affecting a lot of users, so I am sure it is being checked into thoroughly.

I have the same problem on 2 machines, both of the have Win2K with SP4 and all the MS Patches, Mine has too much software to list  my Dad’s has a lot less software, I solved the problem disabling the On Demand Scanner.

Since it might be a conflict with other installed software I will list what both machines have in common regarding Resident Software:

Comodo Personal Firewall
Comodo Antivirus (Build 1.1.0.3, Virus DB 1.1.7.1, Allow DB Version 2.2.0.7, Program Updates Version 1.1.0.9)
Intel Active Monitor
SoundMax Audio Control Panel
PanteraSoft HDD Health (to monitor S.M.A.R.T)

I will do some testing enabling the On Demand Scanner and disabling the above to see which of the above might be the culprit

I am still having the same hangups even after uninstalling 1.0 and re-installing 1.1.

Im waiting on tech support to see what they can have to offer as far as an idea. I would really like to keep the scanner, as it seems to work really well, but I cant keep something that wont let my machine run…sigh…

Hey
I got exactly the same problem as descriped. OS is Win 2000 pro sp4. I solved by uninstall the whole COMODO pack (CAV and CPF).
Then installed them from scratch and for now there’s no problems. I started indtalling the CPF and then CAV. I’ve shut down and started the computer a dozen times now and it seems that there’s no nags. All systems working without any problems.
Hope this could be helpfull.
All the best!

Just recieved an update and the problem is back. I’ve had to uninstall CPF in order to start again. Maybe the problem lies within CPF itselves?
For now CAV is funktioning
I will be back if anything new comes to surface.

I think that I may have just run into the same problem. I came here to post the below & found this topic. Sorry for the dump. ;D

Since CPF was no longer a beta, I decided to try CAVS. So, I un-installed avast!, rebooted. I install CAVS, rebooted. Hmm… problem. The desktop seems to be taking it’s time to come up, it’s sort of stuck half-way. Not all the taskbar icons are showing. The system has not exactly hung… but, it is very, very slow. Now, what follows is series of reboots & lots of cursing. All with the same result. I end up at the desktop after booting into safe-mode. Uninstall CAVS… no…

erm… a gotcha. Nice. Now, I didn’t run any other active scanners… But, I did have some installed. So, I un-installed AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta and Spyware Terminator. Reboot. Whooohoooo… it works. I connect, activate CAVS & perform the update. I need to reboot for the CAVS update… So, reboot… Unfortunately, I was then faced with the same problem as before. A painfully slow system, that cannot even start up properly. The following are from the error log…

*I added the descriptions.

Obviously, the slow start was either as a result of these errors or something else was causing it. Probably CAVS, although it could be indirect. Since I had no diagnostic available to determine was wrong, mainly because I couldn’t run anything with CAVS active with my system, I eventually decided my only course of action was to manually disable all CAVS startup, driver & service entries whilst in safe mode. This I quickly did (thanks for naming/marking them logically & clearly). Reboot. Normal desktop. Un-installed CAVS. Reboot. All OK. Reinstalled avast! & all its upgrades. Had a cup of tea & a smoke. ;D Watched TV for a bit. Then typed this.

HELP! I would like to try CAVS. But, I don’t fancy doing all the above again (tea & smoke was ok ;)). Any ideas? Something else conflicting with CAVS? I don’t have much else.

One other odd observation. Whilst CAVS was running… it seemed to create copies of existing Quick Launch toolbar items on the taskbar. But, this might have been the result of me clicking on icons, trying to get something to respond.

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Yeah, you are a victim of all the same as the rest of us…

I submitted a support ticket, but their advice so far has been to uninstall, reinstall and re-update.

That didnt work for me, so I e-mailed back. Im waiting on a reply. Until them Im running my scanner without the update, and it seems to be running fine…

Cool. I’ll ride on your ticket then.

There certainly is a bug. It affected my computer as well :frowning:
As you can imagine, I am making sure that CAVS team resolve this and resolve it PDQ!

Melih

Wow…

Im sure if it hit your machine as well the staff will definitely get working on it ;D

I just hope its something simple, as I think its a great suite between the firewall, the AV, and the backup.

At any rate, anything I hear from tech support Ill post here.

~Bug

lolll @ bug. Good one!
When you said this, I pictured Melih getting up out of a chair with a bullwhip, walking into a room of about 50 people behind workstations and yelling, “Do you know what just happened to MY computer , do you!?” And all 50 crouched on the floor with their hands in front of their faces, saying “We are sorry Melih! please forgive us!” He then kicks over their water dishes, cracks his whip as they tremble in fear, and says, “This better not happen again!”

Cheers,

Paul

Well almost true…apart from kicking their water dish part…

I had previously taken away their water dishes!

Melih

Yup, I don’t know if this will help at all, Melih, but somewhere in a related thread I was asked about the size and vers. of cavengine.dll (for me 40kb, modified 04/17/06) and MSVCRTD.dll (425kb, modified on install date. I am still at the same point I have my original install on, and am currently ignoring my update notify.
