I am a newbie and I would like to ask why COMODO is not starting at startup. I am getting a message
telling me COMODO is off and to click this balloon message to turn it on. Any info will be sincerely appreciated. Thank you. (:WAV)
It sounds to me like your product is the firewall, and you’re getting a notification (just above the systray icon) from Windows Security Center that the firewall is off. Based on that scenario, this will be occurring shortly after you log in to Windows.
Okay, I’ve moved the topic where it needs to be (Firewall Help board); don’t let that keep you up at night, as it’s not that big of a deal.
What you’re seeing is because the user-end of the firewall (the graphical user interface - GUI) for which the executable is cpf.exe (look for it in Task Manager) is the last part of the firewall to fully load. The GUI is all that Windows Security Center (WSC) is capable of monitoring; it has no interaction with the core of the firewall, which runs at the core of the operating system from the time you boot up.
When you log into Windows, applications try to grab a spot in the load order; basically it’s a free-for-all. So the order is always changing. Sometimes this means that WSC beats CFP.exe to the punch; when that happens, WSC will alert that the firewall is not running. By the time you could click the balloon to do something about it, the GUI would’ve already loaded.
This delay means absolutely nothing from a security standpoint. The GUI is just where you interact with the rules and so forth; it is not the firewall. So rest assured that from the time you boot, the firewall is running even if the GUI isn’t loaded yet.
No problem; glad to help. I’ll mark the topic as resolved, and close it. If you need it reopened, just PM a Moderator (please include a link back here) and we’ll be glad to do so.
