The Help file doesn’t seem to work (under Miscellaneous).

Edit: Have installed CRC on my works computer (Vista) and the Help is working on this computer. Will test again on my home computer (XP) and report back.

Edit2: Still isn’t working :'(. Have removed CRC, re-installed and still not working. Any other XP users have this problem?

Tried compacting registry now a continuous blue screen loop what now?

Hello,

Please tell provide us with the Windows exact version (including Service Pack version) and maybe some data about the system.

Hi its Windows xp home sp2 intel processor 1.70ghz system bios 3a18 any more details required thanks

Just took a look at the portable version on XP SP2 PC (running from a USB flash drive.) It drops crcnat.exe into the c:\windows\system32 folder. Not a big deal but I just wanted to point out that it does leave the file behind…

Also found CRC32.ini in the C:\Windows folder

Please be sure you follow these instructions when posting your bugs.

OS: Window XP Media Center 2005 SP2 32bit Fully Patched.
AV: Nod32
Firewall: Online Armor

How I produced the problem:
I tried the compact feature it showed bizarre analysis values(before compact size is smaller than after compact or something I can’t remember correctly)
Started compacting the register and then the computer started and endless loop of BSOD.
How Itried to resolve the problem
Due to the improper shut down Disk Check procedure found too many corrupted files, using a bootable disk I found that the registry hive system32\config\software became 800MB, so I replaced it with the one from windows\repair and my computer started, however it’s nothing like my normal windows.
I tried to restore the registry from CRC but what it restored was only the invalid registry entries that CRC deleted while cleaning(before compacting).
I had no restoration point because I system restore is turned off.
I checked the system32\config\ folder to see if any files could help and I found system.bak security.bak… which all were dated at the time of compacting but I didn’t find software.bak, instead I found software.cmp which is 32kb and it was created at the time compact.

Any help restoring my original registry is appreciated.

I used my e recovery boot disc dated 2006 pc working much better now just lost some pictures thats all. Moral of the story DO NOT USE compact reistry feature.

OS: Window XP SP3 32bit

I do not know what it is.

We have to put crcnat.exe in there as you won’t be able to compact without it. The Native environment of windows cannot start the application from other location, bacuse that path might not be yet mounted.

This means the windows Task Scheduler is not working (if user and password were correctly typed). Or some protection does not let you add jobs to Task Scheduler(which is a Windows own service).

Please send me a private message and attach system32\config\SOFTWARE file. The original one… the one CRC compacted. We have to analyze it as it might be corrupted. Usualy such error appears when there is a problem with the structure of the header info of the hive. If we know what the exception is we at least can warn you not to compact.

Really. It simply adds a task in standard Task Scheduler. I thought it will use own service. Good decision. Thank you very match!

I first allowed CCleaner v2.11 to clean my registry, and then installed CRC. I got the following error after the first scan, after CRC removed 650 safe entries (not found by CCleaner!), and every scan since. The error occurs during the In-depth Search and terminates the scan. The error does not prevent cleaning of entries detected previously. The following screenshots are with only the In-depth Search selected.

The next screen below is after clicking OK on the error message.

Installed in default directory. Win XP Pro 32-bit SP2, 1GB RAM, McAfee AV, no local firewall, Comodo Memory Firewall v2.0.4.20.

Another bug is that clicking on Miscillaneous\Help has no effect. Invoking CRC help from the Start menu works fine.

Please help.

Edit (2008-9-19 11:17AM) Clarified description, added screenshots.

I didn’t get any error messages, but my wife and I each experienced the same issue. We have separate desktops with same OS, basic setup: Vista 64bit, CFP and CMF (latest versions)
We used CRC on both machines, and in both instances after cleaning, Adobe Flash Player stopped working. Fixing the issue was easy enough - reinstalling the flash player got everything going again - but we wondered if there was anyone else experiencing this, since CRC is apparently deleting a key or several keys that the flash player needs to operate normally.

XP Home SP3 with auto updates on. 32 bit.

CIS beta only active security.

Scanned and removed default items. Did not compact registry.

BSOD on restart after entering user password.

Resolved by safe mode system restore.

Hi,
Windows was doing his updates while you where scanning the registry . We have a warning message before the scan process starts.

I don’t think so, my last update was 12th September and none since available.

I also disconnected from my network and shut down all programs I thought were running before doing the scan.

Thanks
