COMODO is killing my NIC... Please help...

Hi guys

I’ve been using comodo for months now and it’s been great until this morning…

i dont quite remember exactly what happend, but i remember receiving a notification from comodo of new update etc… i dont remember if i went for it or cancelled it… as i was in a hurry to leave…

next time i reboot, boom,i could no longer communicate with any network destinations… i have a router, a dsl modem, other computers, etc… i get RTO (reply time outs) when doing ping checks…

i tried to repair it but xp gives the following error:

Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed.

i tried running the good old WINSOCK Fix, but that didnt work… at first i suspected a virus… ruled it out… then i checked all my services… all is well…

then i noticed getting NOTIFICATIONS from comodo that it’s not running or something (i dont remember)… and there was a suggestion to reinstall it…

So i thought perhaps comodo was corrupted and it somehow is messing my NIC… so i uninstalled comodo and after restart, everything is fine…

here’s the bad part… i downloaded the latest version (just an hour ago) and installed that… and im back with the same problem again… i uninstalled it. and all is well ago…

so perhaps the previous installation of comodo did mess things up and somehow it’s not going away even with a fresh install from a newer version of comodo…

please help!!!

for now im gona try and run a registry cleaner first before installing comodo again…

I also need help… I’ve never used CFP before & so am trying the latest 2.4 version; I’m running XPro with avast AV. When I install the firewall, it blocks EVERYTHING, there is NO connection to the internet, no packets sent or received, all is 0. Worse, when I disable the wall, nothing changes, not even after a reboot. I have to unistall CFP before I can get back on the net, which is how I’m able to write this. What’s the problem with CFP?

Welcome to the forum.
Did you install with “auto” option?
Have you made a trusted zone/network if you are in such or use a router?
Have you denied any popup with svchost.exe?
If you go to start/run, and type cmd, click ok, type ipconfig /all, do you see an IP address, gateway and so on there? What?

im pretty sure all my settings are fine since everything’s working alrite for months already…

yes my network is set in the trusted zone… nope i’ve not denied any svchost processes… besides… if you EXIT, or set COMODO to ALLOW ALL, it’s still the same thing…

tried the registry clean theory, reinstalled… same problem… i tried it all over agian just to make sure… same results as posted in the start of this thread…

i took the liberty of taking screenshots

If you go to start/run and type cmd, click ok and type ipconfig /all
What IP, gateway and so on do you get?

You can also try to re download the CFP 2.4 to be sure that the setup is not corrupted.

i get the ip/dns settings that i have set MANUALLY… but if i set it to automatically obtain settings, it doesnt get any/ can not set itself based on DHCP of my router which is working perfectly.

I was installing the latest:
CFP_Setup_English_2.4.16.174.exe

i just tried installing the original installer i had which is a nodge lower in version… same problem… it seems that comodo doesnt UNINSTALL itself pretty well because it seems to get affected by its previous installation which, i now believe has been corrupted…

there’s gotta be just something like a registry setting or some config file or dlls that’s left behind by comodo that i can just remove or something…

Try reinstalling NIC and entering these commands from the console:

netsh int ip reset log.txt
netsh winsock reset

Reboot then.

nope. didnt work. i couldnt even get it to install right when comodo is installed…

i also tried manually removing drivers installed by comodo which it left even after uninstallation (bad bad bad)… and then rebooted, and then reinstalled comodo. boom same problem ALWAYS…

i’ve also noticed, in my many many uninstall-reinstallations of comodo that, comodo seems to retain its previous settings such as which component is active and disabled… so comodo is definitely not a good boy when it comes to uninstalling itself… and now i think i’ll have to reformat to get rid comodo completely…

hmm… this sucks. (:AGY)

Strange. When reinstalling CPF I made I registry search and couldn’t find any meaningful (e.g., not trash or cache registry keys) tracks of Comodo.

The TCP/IP settings had changed on two PC’s for me, so I just wonder if you have checked them? You say that you have set them manually, but did you check the TCP/IP filtering? Those where the settings that was changed for me… Don’t have a clue why… After setting those to default settings (activate TCP/IP filtering, and allow all) I was able to repair the connection. Just an idea if you haven’t tried it.

well i tried em both manual and auto… and the TCP/IP settings on COmodo seems right… however my actual tcp/ip system is dead as it is not able to ping any ip source in the network (DNS error)

looks like a re-install of XP is on the horizon… sheesh. and i just got everything setup…

Open CMD and type “ipconfig /flushdns”
Then press enter.
Reboot ( Just for thoroughness)

DNS cache holds positive and negative marks on DNS queries, maybe your DNS cache is corrupted. In either case this will work.

are you sure this will work sir? given the fact that TCP/IP properties or anything related to it doesnt respond, if not, hangs, when comodo is installed?

Coz as i see it, i cant’ even modify my tcp/ip settings manually, and compared to that, DNS cache is minor factor in this equation.

You said you were not being able to ping any source on the internet, that MAY be because your TCP/IP settings were not working OR it COULD have been a DNS Cache error/corruption . I have had problems accessing anything on the network from a computer that all i had to do was flush the DNS cache with.

It is worth a try, it is extremely unlikely to damage your computer. Given that the risk was worth the 5 seconds it would have taken to test it.

hmm. good to know

lol… yes it would have… if not for the fact that i’ve uninstalled comodo already so that i may connect online to chat here. so yeah i’ll install it again and try flushing my dns…

thanks will get back with results… not so hopeful though… :frowning:

ipconfig returns NOTHING…

flushdns, obviously wont work either…

i noticed, that on start up, the status of comodo is INITIALIZING… this goes for about a minute… then the pop ups as seen in the screenshot.

Something is REALLY conflicting. Have you the latest network card drivers for your NIC?

Sounds like it MAY be the driver conflicting with COMODO Firewall.

nope it’s more like COMODO did SOMETHING to my computer… coz it was working perfectly before… i tried to install the earlier version which i had originally, and same problem…

im 100% this problem would be solved if i reformatted… but what for? till comodo messes it up again like how it is now? so i much rather find what’s wrong now and manually fix it than reformat and never know what caused it
