A firewalls is not like an antivirus. AV’s need daily definition updates to update their signatures (in other words, their capability to detect newer malware). Firewalls don’t need definition updates because they scan incoming and outgoing traffic, not files. Everything a firewall needs is already programmed into it. The only time a firewall needs to be updated is for bug fixes, performance enhancements, and new features.
