I used to run CIS 5.5 on my server 2003, working without a problem. But I don’t know if this applies to 5.8. BTW, I’m running 5.8 on server 2008 r2, everything is ok here.

Nope. At least not the current version in an ESXi VM. I’ve just tried it. It says something like, “The target OS is not supported.”

Mileage may vary when trying to install on Server editions.
