Comodo Firewall will not install

I have download 3 different version of Comodo Firewall, however I cannot get it to install. I have removed Norton / Symantec Internet Security 2007, as it stopped working, but now I cannot install Comodo FW as a replacement.

I have also had a I Worm Beagle ij Trojan on my PC, which I’m trying to clean off. Also flec006.exe, which AVG Anti-Virus has cleaned.

I also cannot run some programs, I get fro example errors such as “firewall.exe is not a vali Win32 Application”

Can anyone help, I am also loosing Internet Connection intermitantly?

Cheers
I have download version 3.0.22.349, 3.0.24.368 and 3.0.25.378, all do the same, they look as though they are going to run and extract installation files, then nothing, back to the windows desktop and no program has been installed???

Hi simonhawthorne, welcome to the forums.

If your OS is W2k/XP, I recommend trying to install CFP in Safe Mode. Not sure about Vista.

If your pc is infected you need to address those issues first before installing a firewall. There is a Symantec Removal tool found here.

Try scanning with Dr Web Curit here.

http://www.freedrweb.com/

The firewall will not work if you install it in safe mode. Drivers don’t properly install. he said his pc is infected.

I don’t know if it is allowed to post in here, but perhaps could you verify your system with Hijackthis and post the log in here (if allowed)?

Also, you should considerer to verify your system with anti-spyware applications such as Spybot Search and Destroy, SUPERAntiSpyware, LavaSoft Ad-aware 2008. And of course, perform on-line check-ups at kaspersky, bitdefender, mcafee, symantec, trend micro.

If the system is infected, then it might be the reason why you can’t install comodo firewall. If that’s the case, I even doubt you’re going to able to install any other security tool. But try at least to install Hijackthis, and then post the log in here (again, if allowed).

I have used the Norton Removal tool off the Symantec website, I have also scanned with Housecall, Adaware 2008, AVG, Kaspersky online version, all latest versions and the latest scan with AVG showed no Viruses.

i will try the Drweb Cureit now. and post results.

Well you said you were infected. I guess your not. Does Windows Security Center show any active firewalls?

Windows Firewall is active, should I de-activate?
It shows a number of exceptions, should I reset it?

What do you think I can try next.

Dr Web is about 1/6th of the way through a scan.

You should disable Windows Firewall before installing Comodo. Use CCleaner registry cleaner and also use CCleaner to clean out your temp files and cookies. Are you currently running any av? Avast is a good free av. You can also get Avira premium 8 free for 6 months which is what I am using. Be 100% sure your pc is absolutely clean and error free. Do a couple of reboots before installing Comodo.

Hi simonhawthorne

When you de-activate Windows firewall also disable any other security apps that you may have running such as AV, real time malware prevention etc. CFP 3 will sometimes not install if there are other apps in the way. That is why kail mentioned to install in safe mode.

John

Should I be disconnecting from the Internet, before I disable my security products?

Yes

In your first post you wrote this. You mention you’re trying to clean I Worm Beagle ij off. So, I’m guess it isnt clean, yet.

If you cannot run some programs and if you get the error - name_application is not a valid Win32 Application - then you clearly have a virus on your system.

Have you tried Hijackthis?
