Anyone facing complete ocassional lockup of the system with Comodo Firewall Only .1142 (D+ Permanently Disabled) & Avast 5 Free .677 on WIN XP SP3. It started recently. Ocassional complete system lockup. I have to poweroff the system.

I have the same products and no problems.
You can install program named AntiFreeze and see which program caused freeze (it will have high memory usage). You can even stop it. Let us know what is the name of that program.
Try adding the CIS folders to the exclusions of Avast v5.
You probably see in the logs Avast try to access cmdagent.exe in memory. Since CIS protects its self to this cpu usage goes up.
