OK and will try in safe mode with System Restore later tonight.

Thought to let you know that I have tried to do System Restore in Safe Mode and still the same as normal – cannot complete the System Restore. I am not sure why? But I do have a CD Disk with Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack #2 but not sure how to copy the files from the cd disk to the hard drive to replace the files? Any idea how?

you do not copy the files from the cd disk to replace the files _ you make a new install of windows xp pro pack 2 with your CD disk (usually this cd is with drivers included).
i suppose it is on the IBM (your old one is not it ?).

do not forget updating after your success install make _ good luck (on you tube you will find a lot of tutorial and if irt does not work ; you can try ubuntu or mint or another free linux o.s)
