I just installed Comodo yesterday and since then, Webcam First cannot upload/FTP photos to my web site. I’ve tried to approve the Webcam First FTP program, add it to the “OK” list, but I am unable to get it to work. ??? The only way it will is if I disable Comodo’s protection…which doesn’t help with the purpose Comodo serves. I’m obviously not doing something right. Help? :-La
Hi pagosajoe, welcome to the forums.
Check the Firewall & Defense+ Events. Look for block entries relating to the problem (time & date narrows the field). The block entries will give you clues as to what CIS is blocking & what you need to “open”. Post screen shots of the Events if you need help understanding them and what to do.
Hi kail and J2045,
Thanks for the tips. I’ve attached images of the following:
1 - About Comodo - version
2 - Firewall Events
3 - Comodo Configuration Status
4 - Defense Plus Events
5 - Antivirus Status
6 - Network Policies
There are no Firewall Events. Defense Plus Events shows MagicJack phone service events, and my changing the status eventually to disabled so I can have the Webcam First FTP upload work. The Antivirus Events are for “MagicJack” phone service. Configuration shows the Internet Security option active. Lastly, the Network Policies shows that the FTP software is authorized access.
The only way the Webcam First FTP process works is with all Antivirus Security Level, Firewall Security Level, and Defense+Security Level options disabled.
What am I missing?? 88)

Right-click the System Tray icon and put your Firewall into ‘Training Mode’.
Go to:
FIREWALL > Advanced > Network Security Policy
Select:
C:\Program Files\Webcamfirst\WF_FTP.exe
Click ‘Remove’.
Select:
C:\Program Files\Webcamfirst\webcamfirst.exe
Click ‘Remove’.
Click ‘Apply’.
Now try your FTP Program again, and new ‘Network Security Policies’ will be automatically written for you.
WARNING
Remember to take your Firewall back out of ‘Training Mode’.
You should be able to follow the same instructions for Defense+, though I’m not sure about the Antivirus part. Seems like you’ve ‘Quarantined’ a required File. You will have to ‘Unquarantine’ the File before it will work. I’m not sure how to do that as I don’t use the ‘Antivirus’, though I am very sure it is possible to do.
Ah’, here you go…
Hi J2045,
Thanks for your help and documenting the procedures, which I followed meticulously. No luck.
As you said, the new rules were written for me. Once that was done, I switched back to the “Safe” mode for Firewall protection and ran the FTP program. Once again, it crashed.
The only way to get it to upload was to go back to disabling the Firewall protection. Frustrating…
I appreciate your help!

Hang on… did you say WS_FTP crashed?
I suppose that’s a non-technical description. ;D Windows Task Manager says it was “Not responding”. I checked the Antivirus Quarantine section and there was only a reference to MagicJack. I removed that reference, so there’s nothing “quarantined” at this time.
What next? Again, thank you for your assistance!
PagosaJoe
If the Firewall made it Crash, it should have wrote an Event the instant it Crashed.
Please check ‘here’ again.
OK, “not responding” might still fit with a firewall/defense+ block. WS_FTP might be trying to obtain access to something that it doesn’t expect to be denied or wait for. Unless it did eventually actually crash… ie. disappear from the Task Manager without you shutting it down?
In any event, as J2045 directs, you should check the Windows Event logs for any related entries (just in case :)).
Sorry, to be clear (which I wasn’t): I meant Windows Event Log. Accessed by using the Event Viewer, method depends on OS.
edit
And…no event was written. That log is empty, and has been since I first began using Comodo. Puzzling. Comodo has some excellent features beyond Brand X internet security programs out there that I’ve used forever and want to stay with it. I’m sure there’s an answer to this, and thank you again for sticking with me! :-TU

Hi kail,
Windows Task Manager shows it as “Not Responding”. I have to end the task to make it disappear. When Webcam First calls for another FTP upload, then WS_FTP starts, and goes through another Not Responding cycle.
Cheers,
PagosaJoe
Which do you have to ‘Disable’ to make things work?
- Defense+
- Firewall
- Antivirus
That should narrow it down a bit.
Based on what you’ve said it seems WS_FTP is hanging, rather than crashing. I’d just like to confirm some things (in addition to what J2045 asked)…
You’ve tried training mode in both the Firewall & Defense+.
Both WS_FTP & webcamfirst.exe are defined as Trusted Applications in Defense+.
Both Firewall & Defense+ event logs are empty.
The Windows Event logs (both System & Application) contain no related (in time) entries.
What is your CIS version & OS?
Thanks.

Yes - both were in training mode. The appropriate rules were written.
Both WS_FTP & webcamfirst.exe are defined as Trusted Applications in Defense+.
There is a definition I added (My Own Safe Files) to show them as trusted.
Both Firewall & Defense+ event logs are empty.
Yes - they're empty.
The Windows Event logs (both System & Application) contain no related (in time) entries.
There's nothing there showing any event with an associated time frame.
What is your CIS version & OS?
The CIS version is 3.9.95478.509. The OS is WinXP SP3.
Thanks.
Thank YOU!

Hi Pagosa Joe,
Could you go in to D+ > Advanced > Image Execution Control Settings > Exclusions
Add those 2 .exe files there and Apply, and OK your way out.
See if this has any effect please.
Bad
Not sure if this is germane, but in watching the Active Connections window, WS_FTP steps through various ports (e.g., 4800, 4802…) and eventually hangs when the Firewall Security Level is set to anything except Disabled.

Hi Bad,
Applied those two .exe files, said OK, and still no joy.
Again, not sure if this is pertinent, I’ve noticed that there is a time delay in uploading the images even in the “disabled” modes. For example, I can take images a minute or two apart, and upload them. When they post, I would expect to see the latest image on the webpage. Instead, it seems to be applying the images in sequence, and there is quite a delay until the latest image posts. Before Comodo, an image would appear in seconds once I uploaded it.
Thanks muchly!
Pagosa Joe
Hmmm…again, not sure if it’s related, but I received a notice after Comodo crashed (cfp.exe) that I just sent in. Comodo said I had found a bug, then closed. Perhaps that will help?
I was changing the settings on the Firewall, Defense+ and Antivirus, trying to see if I could get WS_FTP to upload in any other mode than “disabled”.
