Comodo Firewall and Maxima dont work ... i need help!

hello,

i need your help!

i did install Maxima from http://maxima.sourceforge.net/ a Computer Algebra System

i did add Maxima in defense+ to the trusted files, also all X:\maximaPath*
and i did add Maxima in the Firewall to trusted files and also X:\maximaPath*

but Maxima refuses to work!!!

if i disable only comodo Firewall in the options it works in one second :o

if i enable the Firewall it stops working again

so i guess it has nothing to do with defense+

and in the log appears nothing! no message about blocking any thing
no popup who asks me if i trust in Maxima or not

what can i do now if i not like to switch from comodo to a other firewall or if i dont like to life without any firewall?

please help me!

i also found something in the forum https://forums.comodo.com/help-for-v3/comode-firewall-pro-and-wxmaxima-t25765.0.html but this is not helping me … i did only disable the firewall and not defense and it did work magicaly … so its not a defense problem as i guess

what must i do ?

maybe it has to do something with SOCKS? what ever this is? how can i enable it?

now i did place a ASK rule on top of all
and i did start maxima … i got serval popups from the firewall … about the system, about explorer, about chrome, about, about, about …
but not one time it did ask me about maxima!!!

how is maxima hiding it self from comodo firewall???
if it could hide it self as it is doing and also connect to the internet it would be the perfect plot for a killer trojan :))

if i stop comodo maxima works
if i start comodo with a ask rule on top maxima works not and comodo asks me nothing!

i did also place a allow all rule on top of the global rules … and maxima did not work … but again if the firewall is disabled it works

i only need to disable the firewall … not defence+ not my free-AV … its only the firewall!!

is there no one with a idea how i can fix that peace?
maybe one has a blank firewall instalation and can put his firewall sensitivity on maximum and then run maxima and tell me the rules that he/she gets? (if any)
it would be realy friendly !!!

I dont know why an algebra product has to have internet connections to run.

But usually a program has the internet connection it needs, when you give it this rule:

Allow “Name” OUTgoing all all.
Or you can choose “treat as outgoing only”.
As you dont get a question, you might have to make this rule manually.
In application rules. Specific for the program.
Avoid generalizations of permissions!
Avoid INgoing permissions!

The important question:
Does the program run when you switch off the internet connection, and disable the firewall?
It should not run then. If the problem is related to “firewall” and connections.
If the program runs, its something else.

there are two parts of the application one is the GUI and the other is CMD-style calculating part the GUI trys to conect somehow to this console and i thoght this could be through a kind of loopback-area connection
But usually a program has the internet connection it needs, when you give it this rule:
yeah i use now comodo for years and i never had any thing seen as that ever before! its realy strange! but as you say "usualy" ... some times maybe not

yes i did all of what you said! ... and even generalized rules to test the behaveour... i did try with any combination... top on the rule set or below the rule set... global rules... app rules ... all at once... every combination... and of course i did set the rules back after many tests ;)

i did now what you said if i turn the wlan off and disable the firewall it works if i turn the wlan off and enable the firewall it refuses to work if i turn the welan on and disable the firewall it works if i tuen the welan on and enable the firewall it works not

so i can enable or disable the functionality of this application by turning the firewall off or on and it realy doesent matters if i am connected to the internet or not

so i guess it has something to do with the firewall too
else i could not enable or disable the application by switching the firewall state

i think the firewall is doing also its job if i am not connected to the internet
i mean else rules for loopback-area or dedection of internet conectifity or such things would not work … as i guess
i mean i can also enable or disable in exampe outgoing yahoo-messenger messages (if a rule is given) and this does not depend on the internet connectifity … i can disable applications from finding the internet also if i am not connected to it … such rules are possible and i can see this in the log … also if not connected to the internet

so i tend to say, if i can enable or disable the functionality of a application by enabling or disabling the firewall it could be very possible that the problem has something to do with the firewall

and if internet conectifity dont affects the functionality of the application it may has nothing to do with internet it self

but still with the firewall

i mean maybe i am also wrong … but all is pointing on the firewall state and nothing on the internet

what could be possible is that it has something to do with my WLAN connection and the way comodo protects it … i only use WLAN and i have the cable adapter also disabled in the windows internet setings

maybe the problem could be such a thing??

maybe i should also check what happens if i plug the cable in and enable the firewall and disable the wlan

ok now my observation:

i turn WLAN addapter off and Cable addapter off and firewall off = works
i turn WLAN addaprer off and Cable addapter off and firewall on = it works not

i turn WLAN addapter on and Cable addapter on and firewall off = works
i turn WLAN addaprer on and Cable addapter on and firewall on = it works not

i turn WLAN addapter off and Cable addapter on and firewall off = works
i turn WLAN addaprer off and Cable addapter on and firewall on = it works not

while firewall on i put ask rule for * on top = no question about specific app appears
while firewall on i put ask rule for * on buttom = no question about specific app appears

while firewall on i put allow in/out any to any on top of global = no effect
while firewall on i put allow in/out any to any on buttom of global = no effect

what shall i think now?
its the comodo GUI (in interface or taskmenu) that interferes with the maxima algebra app?

it is clear that i can disable or enable the functionality of the maxima GUI by switching the firewall state
its clear that no rule can fix this, not a direct app rule, not global rule, also comodo catches nothing with a ask rule and also nothing appears in the log

but if i switch the firewall state it is switching the app functionality

it has nothing to do with sandbox or defense+ or even internet conection, also not with a other free-AV and also win-DEP is off

it has only to do some thing with the firewall switch out of disabled state

its totaly strange!!!

i use mostly WLAN Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 130
cable would be Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller but is disabled all the time
i also have blootooth disabled

what exactly happens when i switch the comodo firewall mode from any to disabled?
what happens when the firewall opens all connections?
is it unloading something?
is it unloading a kind of module that is monitoring the connection ehen enabled?
could it be such a thing?
