Comodo Firewall and AVG antivirus

I am using AVG free to scan my incoming and outgoing emails in Outlook. I have followed the instructions in the FAQ for configuring AVG in the firewall.

I am noticing that since I have started using the firewall I am getting more messages that Outlook hs been unable to connect to the server to send and receive my email. Almost 100% of the time the first attempt after I start Outlook results in this message. Afterwards it is much less frequent.

Is this a common occurence between the firewall and Outlook or are there additonal settings I should make to obtain better integration between AVG and CPF? Would a different antivirus, such as Avast, work better?

I am looking forward to the release of the Comodo antivirus in non-beta form. Hopefully then the integration will be much improved.
