Comodo Backup crashes and doesn't respond after start-up

I have CB version 4.0.6.12 and noticed about a week ago that it had not made a scheduled monthly backup. When I tried to open CB it crashed and I couldn’t get it open anymore. CBU.exe.log in TEMP%\ComodoLogsFolder has this to say when I try to open CB:

When program freezes, please create a dump file as instructed here.
Then, please try to update to latest version 4.0.7.14 and let us know if the issue is still reproducible.

Thanks Emanuel for a quick reply. I updated CB and it solved the crash problem.

But now I have another. The scheduled backup that I created in september doesn’t work anymore. I have not changed anything in the backup but I got this log and error when it runs:

If the backup is the same as previously successful backup why does CB say that it is an invalid file? Is the old backup files usable at all anymore? I tried to make a new backup from both the Partition_C_inc_part.cbu and Partition_C_full_part.cbu as a base but it didn’t work either.

By analyzing the logs it appears that one of the backups in the incremental chain are missing.
Please try to verify the backup to be sure the backup is fine or not.
How many backups do appear in restore step 2 upper right corner (snapshot list) ?

I thought that it had done a monthly scheduled backup as the timestamps in the files of the Partition_C_inc_part*.cbu files are from 10th of November but when I tried to restore Partition_C_inc_part.cbu backup it says Snapshot 0 and the date is 10th of October. Is it possible that it did not complete the November backup?

I don’t think this is the cause. It should work regardless the november backup completed or not.
It would be easier to know by analyzing backup logs, if by any chance you might have enabled logging to file option for the scheduled backup, in step 3.

Do you have just one backup file “G:\Backup\Partition_C_inc_part.cbu” created by the scheduled backup job ? If not, please describe in what files did this backup job created and what timestamps do the snapshot inside have.

Was the November backup created by an older version (3.x) ?

Sorry, no log enabled on the scheduled backup.

In the backup folder I have the initial full backup files Partition_C_full_part in 3 parts which have have time stamps on September 3rd on both Windows Explorer and in the restore section. Partition_C_inc_part is in 4 parts with timestamps on 10th of November on Windows Explorer but 10th of October when I try to restore Partition_C_inc_part backups.

Also in the front panel of CB there is no timestamps of the full backup nor the last successful incremental backup.

CB version was 4.0.6 in november before I updated to 4.0.7 manually which solved the crash problem.

We actually have a fix for this issue. It seems that it was caused by splitted backups.
Please try it and let me know.
Copy this GUI.exe to your installation folder and use it instead of CBU.exe. Let me know if it works.

The logs still seem to show little information about cause of the issue.
I added more debug messages, can you please try again?

The diagnostics error is normal since the checsum of CBU.exe doesn’t match anymore.

It looks like the issue is harder to track, so it’s gonna take 2-3 more tries until we find & fix the cause.
Can you please try again an exe again:

Here is a new 64bit GUI.exe.
This time there might be much more debug information, so you can attach it as text file.
Hopefully we will figure it out now.

I included this time the whole log from the beginning as oppose to starting after the integrity test log lines.

Can you please zip the txt file?
Looks like there is a with forum posting and the text file attached contains some Chinese characters.

Edit: Re-posting the file is not necessary, I found a way to read it and will come back with an answer soon.

I added even more debug information now.
It seems to be an issue with “dir\Partition_C_inc_part.cbu” file, but I’m not exactly sure which.

This time there might be a few Megabytes of log, so if you can’t post the log, you can compress it and send it to my email address

Chinese characters? Strange as it was copypasted straight from the log file to Notepad.
