Comodo Antivirus crashes PowerDVD 9 ultra on Windows 7

I hope this is the right section…

Anyway, I have tested and confirmed with the guys at Cyberlink that having the Antivirus module in CIS installed makes PowerDVD 9 Ultra crash…

Symptoms :

  • When you run PDVD for the first time after rebooting, you have to run it twice for the window to even appear
  • Trying to watch a DVD makes PDVD9U crash
  • Going to the Settings/Video tab makes PDVD9U crash
  • Deactivating the antivirus module through the right click menu on the taskbar icon doesn’t work, PDVD still crashes the same way
  • Uninstalling CIS and reinstalling it without the antivirus does the trick, PDVD9U works fine afterwards.

My PC specs (latest available drivers for everything) :

  • Athlon 64X2 4200+ with 2GB of RAM
  • Nvidia 8800GT
  • Creative X-Fi platinum
  • Windows 7 Home Premium (French)
  • Latest available version of CIS to date

I asked CL for a bit more info on the how and the whys… Don’t know if I’ll get any, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to try. How can I help ?

So that’s why… My PowerDVD9 also crashed but I didn’t know what caused it ???

This is the same problem as with PowerDVD 8 Ultra (https://forums.comodo.com/empty-t39478.0.html). You need to disable buffer overflow protection or add PowerDVD executable to exclusion list and then restart your system to get it work. This problem has been around for long time and was never fixed even thouog it has been reported many times.

Thank you so much
