Comodo 3 + Spysweeper = unhappy campers

I took the plunge today and upgraded from 2.4 to 3.0.20.320. Everything went smoothly – happily a very different scenario from my last attempt of several months ago, when I was forced to do a System Restore to Recover My PC. Good job on getting it right Development Guys!

However (isn’t there always one?)…

The moment Comodo 3 was installed I couldn’t receive any email via Outlook 2003.

Narrowed It down to Webroot Spysweeper. Close Spysweeper, email OK - run Spysweeper, email fails.

Found an old reference on this forum to unchecking the box besides “Email Attachments” in Spysweeper (Shields → E-Mail Attachments → E-Mail Attachments Shield).

OK, so that works, and I can now run Comodo v3 + Webroot Spysweeper at the same time and still get email, but that’s just a work around and I’m not comfortable having to disable shields in Spysweeper.

Seeking expert comments please.

Is Spy Sweeper listed as a trusted item in D+? Have you tried putting D+ in learning mode? BTW Spy Sweeper will slow you system down. What are you using for an av?

“Webroot Software, Inc.” is a trusted vendor. If you mean something else please explain.

> Have you tried putting D+ in learning mode?

Yes, but no matter what the Defense+ mode, even Disabled, e-mail fails.

> BTW Spy Sweeper will slow you system down.

All software slows your system. We could debate “best” forever without reaching a consensus, but Webroot Spysweeper is unarguably ONE OF the most effective products of its type. It has served me well for a long time, including when Comodo 2.4 was installed.

AVG - again, for a long time, and still without problems.

Searching the forum I can see that quite a number of people have experienced the same or a very similar problem with e-mail after Comodo v3 was installed. Many of them apparently settle for disabling Spysweeper’s E-Mail Attachment Shield. I don’t believe that’s a satisfactory solution at all.
