OS: WinXP Home SP3
CIS Product ID: 3.103102363.531
Virus Sig Database version: 1630
I’m a registered user of CISPro.
I have CISPro set to run a virus scan at 0130 hours on Sunday morning. At 1400 hours Sunday it was still running. It appeared to hung-up on some file, as it kept flashing the same file name over and over.
I clicked the button to stop the scan. That did not work.
Then I clicked the little red x to close the CISPro dialog window. That did not work.
Then I opened Task manager and tried to end the cfp.exe process. That of course did not work.
Then I clicked Start and Turn Computer off. That did not work.
All the while I was doing all of the above CISPro continued to keep flashing the same file name.
The only way to regain the computer was to turn the power off. When I powered up again the computer seems to run fine.
Then I tired another virus scan and CISPro hungup after 4 hours on another file. It is never the same file that it hangs up on. It seems to be a different file each time.
Any ideas of what the problem might be?
Thanks for your time.

What OS are you on? Do you have other security programs running in the background? If so try temporarily disabling them.
Do you have DEP enabled in Windows? Try setting it only to essential Windows services and programs. DEP can be found here: click right on My Computer → Properties → Advanced → Performance → Data execution prevention.
We are gonna take a look to see if there are some old drivers of your previous security programs are still around. Go to Device Manager → View → show hidden devices → now look under Non Plug and Play drivers → when you see a driver that belongs to your previous security programs click right → uninstall —> do this for all drivers → reboot your computer.
When the problem persists make sure there are noauto starts from your previous security programs download Autoruns and run it.
This program finds about all auto starts in Windows. This tool can therefore seriously damage Windows when not handled properly. After starting go to Options and choose to hide Windows and Microsoft entries and then push F5 to refresh.
Now check all entries to see if there are references to your previous security program. When you find them untick them. After unticking reboot your computer and see what happens.

I have Data Execution Prevention set to Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only.
“We are gonna take a look to see if there are some old drivers…” I have “Go to Device Manager → View → show hidden devices → now look under Non Plug and Play drivers → when you see a driver that belongs to your previous security programs click right → uninstall —> do this for all drivers → reboot your computer.” I do/did not find any drivers belonging to my previous security programs.
There are no autoruns from my previous security programs.
Any ideas???

Does it stick at one file?
Can you disable Spyware Doctor and scan again? Does the same thing happen?
Sounds like he is having the same issue as me, but mine hangs on system volume info/restore file.

Thanks for the reply EricJH.
I’ll disable SpyWare Doctor and try the scan again later tonight. I’ll let you know the out come.
