CIS Virus Updates Fail at 5%

I’ve used Comodo for the last 3 years and have not had any issues. A few months ago, around November, I noticerd that my Virus updates stopped working. I then found I needed to move to the new version of Comodo, 5.3. I installed 5.3 but the updates still do not work. I have been downloading the database periodically and installing it by hand, but have not been able to run the auto update. I just downloaded the latest update which puts me at 5.3.176757.1236.

The update still fails at 5%
I’ve tried changing the download addresses and checked the proxy settings, which is unchecked. I also clicked the “import Proxy Settings from IE” link. I checked the logs and they show nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas to the cause? What happens when the progress bar is at 5%?


Best thing to do to make sure that there are no left overs of previously uninstalled security programs around. Not all uninstallers do a proper job. And left over applications, drivers or services can cause all sort of “interesting effects”.

Try using removal tools for those programs. Here is a list of removal tools for common av programs: ESET Knowledgebase .

Otherwise do a Google search with terms “removal tool” and * name of product or vendor*.

I have already run an uninstaller, as I said I have been using Comodo for several years. Unless you suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Comodo, which I have already done. Is there a tool that will completely wipe comodo off of my machine? Then I might try re-installing again. This problem started with version 3 and persists to version 5.1

Yes, you can run this clean-up tool.

Use it after you ran the regular uninstaller and after reboot.

When you need it because the uninstaller is giving problems you can use it in safe mode or use it twice (before and after reboot).
