CIS Should Keep Track Of Files using Signature And Not Just By Location [M1326]

1. What actually happened or you saw:
Currently if we manually trust a file through CIS, and then move it to another location, CIS doesn’t recognize the file as still being trusted. By default CIS only keeps track of the file via the location, and not by hash.

2. What you wanted to happen or see:
The ability on CIS to create some tag, keep track of the hash, or check the CRC for the files which have been manually trusted, or had rules created for, by the user. (For example, if we are making the file trusted or if we are blocking the file)

3. Why you think it is desirable:
I would like to see CIS recognizing files by their signatures or CRC so we don’t need to trust a file (or untrust it) everytime that the same file is moved from one place to another, from one HD to another, or from a HD to a pendrive.

4. Any other information:
It should still be possible to designate a location for the file, instead of tracking via signature. However, by default I would like to see the hash used for keeping track of the file.

I apretiate the report but this is a wish topic, not a “how to” topic. Its a request for “automatic” file recognition from CIS.

I’m just stating that from my understanding, Comodo already has a similar feature.

This is exactly not the request!
These exceptions are (and ever were) path based.
The request is to use checksum based recognition, so that moving the “same” file to another location won’t create an alert, but changing it - even in the same location will.

So essentially is your wish for CIS to always use the file signature (or similar method) when keeping track of user-created rules or file designations (meaning trusted, etc…)? You then believe that using the path should only be used when manually selected by the user.

Am I understanding this wish correctly?

Also, just FYI, many wish topics do turn out to be a misunderstanding of how CIS works. Thus, there is nothing wrong with a user pointing out possible solutions related to this wish. However, please let me know if my understanding is correct.

Thanks Chiron. Its perfect. Lets hope the devs pay attention to this wish because its a huge addin for future cis versions (sad that the competitors already have this by default and cis not).

I would like to thank everyone who has voted on this particular enhancement. As this wish has accumulated the necessary 15 points I have added this to the tracker for consideration by the devs. However, do note that even though this wish will be considered by the devs, it does not necessarily mean that it will be implemented. I will update this topic when I have any additional information.

Yro, I have just been informed that apparently the Wish submitted here:

has been expanded in the tracker (which is where the devs look) such that it already includes this wish. The wish it now represents is that hashes be available for every part of CIS.

Therefore, I will move this Wish Request to Rejected, as unbeknownst to me, it is already covered under a previous wish. I hope you understand.
