CIS Quick Start Guide

I am interested in trying out CIS on my Windows 8.1 machine, and the first thing the Quick Start Guide says is :“Before beginning installation, please ensure you have uninstalled any other antivirus and firewall products that are on your computer.”

Now, Windows 8.1 has a built-in, native Windows Defender and Windows Firewall.

What exactly am I supposed to do?
What does a CIS installation do to Windows Defender and Windows Firewall?

You don’t need to worry about those.
Windows defender will quit automatically once you install Comodo. As for Windows Firewall it doesn’t conflict with Comodo. You can safely turn it off if that’s not done automatically during installation.

That message is target at products that aren’t part of Windows.

Thanks for the quick response Aikno, you may well be right, but the problem is the that exact wording of the CIS Quick Start Guide does NOT distinguish between Windows and non-Windows programs.

The exact wording of the CIS Quick Start Guide is to “remove any programs of the same type as CIS prior to installation of CIS”.

Anyone from Comodo care to chime in? I don’t want to ruin my machine!

Defender and the Windows Firewall will be disabled when installing. Sometimes Windows Firewall does not get disabled. Then you need to disable it yourself.

Over time it happened more than several times on my system and it never gave problem when they ran together. I often find out when I let a p2p program run and get an alert of Windows Firewall…
