CIS Firewall Doesn't Remember Approval To Allow Avast AV AvastSvc.exe.

I am currently using the latest free version of CIS Firewall and Avast’s new ver. 6.0.100. When I first boot up, CIS Firewall pops up to ask if I want to allow AvastSvc.exe. I click to approve, making sure it is set to remember the answer, and there is no further problem… until I power down and boot up again.

OS is XP Pro.

I just installed this same combo on a friend’s machine, and it does the same thing.

I think I recall this problem first showing up while I was still running the previous version of Avast AV, but I’m not sure.

Everything is working once I get past approving the initial request so it’s more of an annoyance than a major problem, but I’m afraid to recommend CIS to my non-geek friends until this is resolved.

TIA for any ideas or help.

Give AvastSvc.exe the status of installer/updater and you won’t get anymore alert from Def+ for this file.

Def+ already lists AvastSvc.exe as an installer/updater under “Defense+ Rules,” and ALWIL Software is listed under “Trusted Software Vendors,” but the problem persists. :frowning:

Hey and warm welcome to comodo forums Harvery R!

add the avast folder here CIS —> Defense+ —> Defense+ Settings —> Execution control Settings —> Detect shellcode injections (i.e. Buffer overflow protection) —> Exclusions —> Add —> Browse…

Tell me if this solve the problem.

Regards,
Valentin N

I run Avast free with Comodo FW and Def+ (in paranoid mode) on one computer. I’ve given the status installer/updater to 3 avast files :
Avast5\Setup\avast.setup
Avast5\AvastSvc.exe
Avast5\AvastUI.exe
plus I’ve made a group for all the other avast exe and given it the status trusted application.

I can assure you I don’t have alerts from Def+ for Avast except a few ones when I updated to Avast6.

Hope that help

Thanks, all.

New Comodo update, yesterday, to ver. 5.3.181415.1237 appears to have resolved the problem. Found similar reports in this thread so I posted this info, there, so others know.

Thanks, Comodo. You rock. :-TU

Oops. Looks like I spoke too soon. The problem re-emerged when I went to download the newest versions of the installers.

Valentin N – Thanks for the help. I’ll try your suggestion. I added the entire Alwil Software folder. Is that what you meant, or did you want me to go to a sub-folder?

put the complete one then you don’t think of adding anything more ;D
