Though I still get that ■■■■ error if I right-click a link and choose jdownloader from the context menu.
Have you installed the JDownloader firefox extension as well as flashgot? If you right click on a link and choose flashgot link, it should load the links in JDownloader, unless you have alternative download managers installed?
Unless I missed it, I haven’t seen a screen shot of your Application rules? If you want to post a one, I can take a look…
My screen shot of my Application rules was included in my previous post.
Yes, I have installed the jDownloader firefox extension as well as FlashGot; no other download managers are or were installed on any of my setups.
Right-clicking on a link (or multiple, highlighted links) and choosing flashgot link, now opens JDownloader but only in its download tab, not in the lankgrabber tab, and after a minute or so, that darn error message still comes up.
Though copying the page URL will activate jDownloader to extract all file links on that page to the linkgrabber tab from where I can choose whatever links I want.
My screen shot of my Application rules was included in my previous post.
So you did. I had image sites turned off, so I didn’t see it
You don’t need the jdownloader.xpi, flashgot will direct links to the linkgrabber page. In the options for the flashgot addon, select the general tab and ensure jdownloader is selected, then click the box to include in the context menu. Now when you select a link(s) you can choose jdownloader.
As for the rules. You can remove the first rule for firefox, (0.0.0.0) that’s not doing anything useful.
I have no idea what’s included in that loopback rule, is that predefined? As long as it allows TCP (UDP would be useful too) out to 127.0.0.1 on any port, you should be ok.
If the HTTP rule doesn’t include port 443 for https you need to add that. Probably add 8080, too.
Temporarily change the block and log to ask and log.
In the rules for the plug-in container, you don’t need loopback or ftp, you will, however, need access to a number of non-standard ports for media playback.
If you’ve finished with the MS diag utility, you can remove the rule.
You shouldn’t need the rule for jdownloader.exe as it’s only a launcher for the jdownloader.jar file, which you can just double click on.
I’m pretty sure the loopback rule (yes, predefined) is ok, Outlook has a very similar rule. This one focuses on IP’s, the HTTP rule should take care of the ports you mentioned. Not sure if the HTTP rule takes care specifically of port 443 for https, but I don’t seem to have problems accessing https sites. I’m presuming port 8080 is covered as it’s one of the most commonly ports used, hence I wouldn’t expect a need to specifically set a rule for this common port (that would be kind of odd)!
I’m still getting that darn error message (see my initial posting), but can work around it easily as previously outlined.
On a slightly more worrying note, it seems to me that sites take a little longer to open than when I had Outpost running. To test this (in some very basic way), on my other laptop I went back to the Windows 7 image I made before removing Outpost and installing CIS. These two laptops are pretty much identical (same Dell Precision M90) with pretty much identical hardware and software installs, and both use this home wireless network.
Oddly enough, sites like the BBC, The Economist, my bank (ICBC via https, here in China) amongst a few others, do seem to open up a bit snappier on the laptop that uses Outpost when compared to the one that runs CSI (even my non-IT-literate wife commented on it). :-\
My third laptop (a 64bit Dell) still runs CSI and seems to be as fast/slow as the M90 running CSI.
And before you ask, yes, all three use the same FF version / extensions, and yes, Windows 7 Enterprise.
Anyway, I’ll keep an eye on it for a little while longer before making a final decision. CSI seems to be very good, indeed, but its rule creation routines, though clearly offering extreme customization possibilities, still have me a bit confused and don’t seem to offer the same level of protection “out-of-the-box” as Outpost does.
What I might end up doing is use CSI on the lappy that does most of the major downloads, and Outpost on one or both of the others - not sure yet.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree that this latest version of CSI is a fantastic product, but perhaps I need to spend a fair bit of time with it before getting that all warm and comfy feelin’ for it, if ya’ know hat I mean ;D
P.S.: Where can I see ALL application rules (those created / customised by myself, and those created on-the-fly by CSI)? Outpost made this very easy, but it seems to me in CSI I can only see those that I created / customised manually (Firewall | Network Security Policy | Application Rules); surely the ones I see there can’t be all … Outpost had a fair few more system related rules (which I could then specifically edit if needed).
If it’s still happening, I suggest it’s a problem with the rules for firefox. If it were me, I’d simply delete the entry for firefox and recreate the rules. You might want to crank up the settings in the firewall so you can see what’s happening. Under Firewall behaviour settings, increase the Firewall Security Level and also the alerts.

Try disabling ‘Block fragmented IP datagrams’ You can find the setting under Firewall Behaviour Settings/Advanced

If you’ve used the default settings, what you see is what you get. The thinking behind this, allegedly, is that by creating very generic rules for system processes and applications, the user isn’t inundated with pop-ups.
I have this issue as well. I tried turning off the firewall including defence plus but the issue remains. Does this mean that this is not a firewall issue as the error message suggests?

Finally figured this out, you need to edit Jdownloader settings and enable flashgot for firefox. Have added complete fix to:
