CIS: CPU 100% - Task Manager only 9%: setiathome 4% + astropulse 5%

Hello :slight_smile:

It is my first post here - sorry for my bad english.
I installed CIS 2 days ago. Since then, the CPU ist working with 100% all the time and i can´t use my laptop with windows xp.
When I look in the Task Manager there are only 2 prozesses at work: setiathome with 4% and astropulse with 5%. This can´t be the reason.
I unistalled Antivir, Zonealarm and Malewarbytes. But nothing changed.
Can you help me with my problem?

In Task Manager, did you click “Show processes from all users”?

Hey and warm welcome ???

please download Avira’s and Zonealarm’s removal tools and use in safe mode (press F8 after computer logo) and use these tools as admin.

I would like to have screenshot of your d+logs (CIS → Defense+ (also known as D+) → view d+ events)

I hope this helps

Regards,
Valentin N

Sorry for my late answer, but I had to work and thanks for your quick answers!

@panic
I clicked “show processes from all users” - but nothing changed.
I think that is normal, because I´am the only user!?!

@ Valentin N
First I had problems removing Zonealarm (because of “endpoint security”), but with the help of the instructions from this site (http://www.computerhilfen.de/hilfen-7-340904-0.html#msg1792834) everything must be okay.
I uninstalled Antivir over the “control panel” and the programm “Avira AntiVir Regestry Cleaner”.
Do you think that is okay?

I stopped the two programms “Setiathome inkl. Boinc-Manager” and “Astropulse”.

The result: CPU is by 0-10% - but the pc is still working extremly slowly (like before).

I will try and give you the screenshots of my d+logs, but it will take a long time, because the laptop is working so slowly…

Here are the screenshot from my d+:

could you give me your laptops specs?

Thanks

To be sure there is no more ZA try running their official clean up tool.

Have you had other security programs installed in the past? May be left overs of previously installed security programs are in the way. Try using removal tools for those programs. Here is a list of removal tools for common av programs: ESET Knowledgebase .

Otherwise do a Google search with terms “removal tool” and * name of product or vendor*.

Also see what happens when you temporarily disable Avira.

I´m sorry to say, that your link to unistall zonealarm is not running.

I think Valentin wants to see hardware specification. :wink:

@siketa
Thanks for your advise!
Can you please tell me, which hardware specifications are needed!?!

Hi ? ? ?. Try this link PC and Mobile Security Software | ZoneAlarm

CPU and RAM are the most important and should be enough…

Thx. I changed my bookmark. :slight_smile:

If your system was capable of Zone Alarm it is most certainly capable of running CIS. The problem is cmdagent.exe using too much CPU capacity. Does running the ZA clean up tool help?

Also run clean up tools for security programs that you used in the past and uninstalled.

@EricJH
Thanks for the new link - I got the programm, but when I try to use it, I get this informations:

  1. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error, Program: C:\Dokumente un…, This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.
  2. Check Point install Utility has a problem and must be closed.

Where do I have to look for the CPU and RAM-Informations? Task Mananger?

I forgot something:
2 new problems:

  1. The task bar disappears some times and get back a few minutes later
  2. The task manager shows me: 9% “Leerlaufprozess” (engl.: idle runnig prozess?)

To get rid off the Visual C++ error make sure you have the latest versions of the three Visual C++ libraries installed. Download and install them from Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn .

Does that make the Visual C++ runtime error go away?

Do you have the task bar set to disappear and show up when you go down with your mouse pointer? Or is it set to always show?

2. The task manager shows me: 9% "Leerlaufprozess" (engl.: idle runnig prozess?)
Leerlaufprozess or System Idle Process shows the percentage of resources that is not being used. With your computer running close to idle it will show 9x% for System Idle Process.
