CIS almost crashed my Windows :-(

Hi all

It’s been a real nightmare for a few days.

I decided to give the Comodo Firewall a try.

I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, Avira Antivir.

First installation of the Comodo Firewall was ok. But I noticed that my wifi card icon desappeared. I searched on the device manager, and… found that it is completely blank ???

I tried many things : no malware, spyware, services.msc ok (but unable to change the status), and this solution :

You must be logged on as a local administrator to perform this task:
  1. Go to “Start”, “Run”, and enter “regedt32”
  2. Maximize the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” window.
  3. Scroll down to “SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum”
  4. With “Enum” selected click the “Security”, “Permissions” menu.

Note: At this point you will probably notice there are no permissions on this key.

  1. Click “Add”.
  2. Add the group “Everyone” and the user “SYSTEM”.
  3. Select “Everyone” and check “Read” ONLY!
  4. Select “SYSTEM” and check “Full Control”.
  5. Click the “Advanced” button at the bottom of the window.
  6. On the Advanced window check “Reset permissions on all child objects…”
  7. Click “OK”
  8. On the warning window click “Yes”
  9. Close REGEDT32

But I can’t “Reset permissions on all child objects…” , access denied, even in super administrator. :-[

Anyway, I decided to uninstall and then install again the Comodo Firewall.

It’s doesn’t want to. Uninstall looks fine, but install crashes all the time at the end after installing kernel drivers.

PLEASE HELP. Give me my device manager back, and the comodo firewall…

BTW, everything seems to work (wifi card, network, usb external drive…). Very strange

  1. Go to “Start”, “Run”, and enter “regedt32”

  2. Maximize the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” window.

  3. Scroll down to “SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum”

  4. With “Enum” selected click the “Security”

  5. Click the “Advanced” button

I’m using the French Windows

In bold, is what I achieved

1. Go to “Start”, “Run”, and enter “regedt32”
2. Maximize the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” window.
3. Scroll down to “SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum”

4. With “Enum” selected click the “Security” > here I guess it’s “permissions”
5. Click the “Advanced” button
6. Go to Owner Tab
7. Click the “Oter Users or group” button
8. Click the “Advanced” button

9. Click the “Find” button, select the “Administrators” and click ok & ok. (PS:I’m not use eng gui) > “Administrators” was already available. There is also “Administrator” and few others
10. check “Reset permissions on all child objects…” , and click ok > Don’t have this option! I have to go to the “permissions” tab, but I don’t have the “Administrators” user (system / owner / everyone)
11. On the warning window click “Yes” > error, unable to modify permissions
12. return to permissions Tab > I guess I was in the wrong place

Try the following, on the ENUM permissions screen, click the advanced button almost at the bottom right.
Now switch to the TAB Owner

Does it show an owner and is it the “Administrator” account?

if not set the owner to the administrator and make sure you select the bottom tickbox “Replace owner on subcontainer and objects”

I guess there is something wrong with my “jace” account ???

http://img10.hostingpics.net/pics/378248snapshot3.png

looks like i am already an administrator

Administrators is Group, not user account. (Administrator is user account)

Don’t have this option!

Pict from adobe ^^;

I have to go to the “permissions” tab, but I don’t have the “Administrators” user
Sorry, I modify(add) the steps…

14.5 Add the group “jace” (Add your account name)
16.5 Select “User name” and check “Full Control”.
20.5 del the group “jace”

Ok, you meant “Replace owner…” and not “Reset permissions on all child objects…”, that’s fine

I’ll be back in a few minutes, THANKS

still struggling :frowning:

[at] step 10 : something is wrong with the key and its owner
