CIS 5 and TuneUp Utilities 2011

Hi,

I did a fresh install of CIS 5 (Firewall only, Proactive Security, Firewall and Defense+ in Safe Mode, Sandbox Off).

Everything went fine except for TuneUp Utilities 2011: When stating TU (i.e. Integrator.exe), the program checks the states of ‘Maintain system’, ‘Increase performance’, and ‘Fix problems’. In CIS 4 this took only some seconds, and the results were presented. Now, after 3 min or so, the states of ‘Increase performance’ and ‘Fix problems’ were shown, but ‘Maintain system’ seems to hang, its state isn’t presented at all.

I went to ‘Trusted Files’, and tried to add Integrator.exe, but CIS came up with the message that Integator.exe is already a safe file. Under ‘Computer Security Policy’ I found a Custom policy entry for Integrator.exe, and changed that into ‘Trusted application’. Unfortunately, this didn’t help, even worse, now none of the states are being presented. I switched to Training Mode, started TU again: no avail. I looke into the log, but there is no event related to Integrator.exe.

Any idea what else I could do? My system is Win XP Pro SP3 32-bit, CIS is build 5.0.163652.1142.

Best regards

Have you tried removing the entry from your trusted files, then entering training mode and starting the application? (Just remember to only use training mode for short durations)

Yeah, I tried that without success. I also added Integrator.exe (and in a second try the whole installation folder of TU) to the exclusions list of ‘Detect shellcode injections’ which helped in case of Daemon Tools Lite, here no success either.

Try giving the Tune Up executables the Installer/Updater policy.

Didn’t help either. I completely deinstalled CIS, rebooted, and installed again. This time, I didn’t reboot immediately as being suggested, but started cfp.exe, switched Firewall and Defense+ to Training Mode, switched Sandbox off (I use Sandboxie), then I restarted. Now TU and all other programs work perfectly.

Congrats on finding a solution. :-TU
