cfw_installer_x86.exe error 1603

I have tried (new downloads, installs) cfw_installer_x86.exe Ver 4.1.19277.920 several times to go from Comodo Firewall 3 to the new version. Each time I try CFW deletes the old installation, re-boots my machine and then gives a message:

“COMODO Firewall Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again.”

The next screen reads:

“Cannot install COMODO Firewall Error: 1603 Fatal error during installation.”

Questions:
What causes this error?

How can I install the Firewall?

It is a sticky in the Install /Setup/Configuration board.

hi FKlusmann,

first of all, please try this: https://forums.comodo.com/install-setup-configuration-help-cis/comodo-internet-security-does-not-install-t60566.0.html;msg426956#msg426956, it seems you have similar problem.

If its wont work, i need more log files :slight_smile:

  1. you should run command " -log CFWlog.txt" without quotes. Like this:
    “C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Downloaded\cfw_installer_x86.exe” -log CFWlog.txt
    And you will see file CFWlog.txt near the installer
  2. What the problem was with the DebugView? Did you select the file to log to as described in p. 3a? File you selected doesnt created? Did you see any information in the main DebugView window while you installing a firewall?

And I now have 4.1.150349.920 installed!

I had done steps 1 - 6 before. Please see my notes from step 7 on:

  1. Go to registry (Start → Run → regedit)

OK- new this time

  1. Find and delete next keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion?\Uninstall\COMODO Firewall Pro

Using Edit → Find, this is not found.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion?\Uninstall\COMODO Internet Security

Using Edit → Find, this is not found.
I did find and delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\COMODO Internet Security and all sub-keys.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComodoGroup?\CDI\1
Using Edit → Find, this is not found. Going down the tree HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComodoGroup is not found.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Software\Comodo\Firewall Pro
Using Edit → Find, this is not found. Note that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Software is empty.

  1. Reboot
    Done.

  2. Check all reg keys, files and directories do not exist
    Start → Run → regedit ->Edit ->Find (Find what: COMODO) found, and I deleted:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CMDAGENT\0000 DeviceDesc REG_SZ COMODO Firewall Pro Helper Driver

  3. Try to install CIS 4.1 with logs enabled

I did : Start ->Run “C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Downloaded\cfw_installer_x86.exe” -log CFWlog.txt

And I now have 4.1.150349.920 installed!
