CFP says it has detected a new Network (Local Area Network #1)

Good evening,

I am on a Compaq Presario AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3300+, 2411MHz/1.93 GBs RAM, running Windows Xp Home, SP3., with IE7.

I have been using CFP for about a month now with no major problems except those that were ‘user-caused’.

However, just a few minutes ago I finished making a new image of my Hard Drive with Acronis True Image.

Then when I rebooted and my desktop came up there was this warning in the middle of my screen from CFP saying it had detected a new network. The hair immediately stood up on the back of my neck.

CFP gave me two choices. I didn’t select either one, I just clicked ‘OK’ and got rid of the notice. I then went to Firewall > My Network Zones and sure enough there was this new entry called ‘Local Area Network #1’.

I removed it and then rebooted.

Upon rebooting the CFP notice didn’t come up in the middle of my screen but the ‘Local Area Network #1’ was back in ‘My Network Settings’.

The only entry I ever had in ‘My Network Zones’ prior to this was ‘Loopback Zone’.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks and regards,

This is normal and know need for alarm are you behind a router by chance? if so the local area network 1 is your router IP. if not please let me know your setup so i might further be able to help you.

Hi frogger,

I appreciate your response.

are you behind a router by chance?

No, I am operating a single PC with no network of any kind or at least I thought that was the case…lol

I am just curious why CFP suddenly decided to alert me to this new network and what it is in reality.

As additional information I utilize Comcast and earlier today I received an email from them saying they were going to update the Comcast email system but I didn’t really pay any attention to it because I use Outlook Express. Could that have something to do with it?

More importantly, should I try to remove it again from ‘My Network Zones’ or just let it go.

Thanks and regards,

This is interesting unless your behind a router this should not be so. what cable modem do you have some of them have routers built in and this could be the case. can you give me the first three numbers of the IP that shows up on local area network so i may see if it is a private IP. note do not give out hole number just first three numbers. don’t remove till we figure out what it is that the IP goes too.

Hi frogger,

what cable modem do you have

ok you have nothing to worry about your IP is a private IP so that is your modem which also doubles as a internet gateway and can be connected to two computers at the same time. that is why you have a private IP. so your good nothing you need to worry about or do just role with. As to why CPF just now detected it i have no clue there but your internet should work better now with it there.

Have a good night

Tony.
